I say we try and form some young lines that can bond over the next 5 years,
Foligno-Ennis-Stafford is already one that has meshed, if we can sign mueller we could have grigirenko and mueller playing together next year and add armia to the line next season, then get hodgson going with the top dogs, vanek and pominville.
This year:
Vanek-Hodgson-Pommers
Roy-Grigorenko-Mueller/UFA
Foligno-Ennis-Stafford
If hodgson doesnt work we can try grigs with vanek and pominville, we may finally find a top center who can mesh with them, those two deserve one.

Grigorenko wants to play in the NHL. Kevin Devine says he is NHL ready. Grigorenko was a top 3 prospect virtually all season and fell at the end due to mono and stupid myths (age myth and Russian flight factor myth). Teams who take big chances are ones who win the cup. We need a big center next season, Grigorenko is 6'3 and still may grow a little.

I don't think Grigorenko is the type who will get "ruined" if he plays as an 18 year old. I just think he is far too talented to not make the team, there are NOT 12 forwards better then him in the system. I don't want a Matt Ellis taking away minutes from Grigorenko. We are better off having him up with us then having him play in juniors, he already had a dominant season and has proven he can tear up the Q, let him play with the big club and have him learn from a Vanek or Pominville.

I guess we will see how he performs in the camps, I just do not hope it is a situation where no matter how he does in camp that he is going to be sent back down no matter what to aid his "development". At the very least he needs to get the 9 game tryout, there is no reason to not give him that at least.
You literally said everything I wanted to say. He seriously is too good for the Q what is it that you guys want to do while he is there? Get stronger ya that's certainly possible but when you are that dominate you don't progress at the rate you could when you are playing with inferior competition.

It's not the competition on the Q, it's the influence of P. Roy. Darcy and Devine both credited Roy for his work in improving Grigs 2 way play. If he needs strength and conditioning work letting Roy keep him isn't stunting his growth. I'm more worried about NCAA hockey effecting Z's growth and would like to see him under the Sabres umbrella in Roc.

I get the feeling Roy could be having a career year this season and he still wouldn't land you a late first rounder at the trade deadline.
If Ribeiro is setting the market then, yea, Roy doesn't have too much value right now. Probably worth more at the deadline once some teams really feel the need for help.

For the record, Roy will make $500,000 more in real salary than Ribeiro next season but has a $1m lower cap hit. Both will be in their final contract year. Both have nearly identical production, with Derek weighted a little bit more towards goals and Ribeiro a bit more towards assists. Derek's a more complete player, Ribeiro is probably preferred offensively.

He's better off playing with his own age group in juniors or in the NCAA.
The AHL isn't a place for 18 year olds.

I would be absolutely SHOCKED if he didn't make our final roster. He has nothing left to prove their. He isn't going to be expected to produce at a high level or be our #1 center this year. They will ease him in much like they did with Myers and in order to do this Derek Roy will be on our team to start the season unless an offer comes about that darcy simply can't turn down. I really don't understand why some people don't consider him as an elite young player. He is probably more NHL ready than Galchenyuk and very close to Yakupov. He had mono and a high ankle sprain that is why he played "poorly" in the playoffs. And just so you all know he still had 10 points in 11 games. Buffalo fans seriously shock me with how negative their outlooks are; it's okay to expect an ETLITE prospect to make a team every once and a while.
