I think I read somewhere that doctors suspect head injuries can affect the pituitary gland and testosterone production as well.

I'm not sure weight cutting has any permanent testosterone production effects, or if it's only when your body is in a caloric deficit for an extended period. Either way, I think it's riduclous that guys are allowed to artificially compensate for that. They're cutting weight to gain an advantage, and should face the natural consequences of doing so, no?

I completely agree, but on the flip-side, as long as he's not breaking any rules, you can't fault him (except for his bungled paperwork in the first Silva fight).

Only a few more days away until this epic rematch. My thoughts on TRT.. if Sonnen needs a boost for an edge to be competitive then so be it. I want to see Sonnen at his best again. I do think we will see a different fight this time. I do think Silva will win yet again and we will not see Sonnen being so dominate. Just my predictions. Cannot frickin wait for this ish to go down!!

People are really picking Sonnen? I think Silva's studied and knows how to pick him apart like everyone else. But hey, I REALLY hope Sonnen wins, he is the most interesting man in the world. I love him

T/E ratio is not the be-all and end-all for testing. That's a myth perpetuated by MMA journalists who are mostly incompetent.

When an athletic commissions tests a fighter they look for other things as well like total testosterone, free testosterone, hemoglobin and a bunch of other stuff. All of which Chael passed as far as I know.

Quote:
However, the CSAC did cite that, while Sonnen’s test results of the ratio itself were high, his actual range of testosterone was within the normal levels for adult males.
That's a quote from the CSAC after his failed test. His total testosterone was within range.

As you mentioned, Chaels T/E ratio was way above the limit but that could mean any number of things. He's been diagnosed with hypogonadism (the cause of that can be debated, but it's irrelevant to his present situation). I've read that the production of epitestosterone is lower for males with hypogonadism. Naturally, low E levels could create a high T/E ratio in the same way that high T levels do. Couple that with the fact that Chael is injecting synthetic T and it's no surprise his ratio was through the roof.

Surprised by the lack of love for Maia. Kim has been very good because he's got a size advantage - he won't have it against a guy who has been fighting a weight class over. Maia's striking has improved, and Kim wants nothing to do with the ground game. I have Maia by sub, round 2.

I notice a fair amount of people picking Sonnen. First off, I certainly hope you're right. What worries me is all Silva has to do is catch Sonnen once in 25 minutes, and it's likely over, whereas Sonnen has to essentially be perfect for five rounds in order to earn the victory. That's very tough to do. I really wish Sonnen had a way to finish this fight, but I just don't think he does. You get the feeling that one way or the other we're going to see something spectacular on Saturday night.

I don't even know why I should bother making picks at this point considering how atrocious I'v been this year, but oh well. I will be rooting for Chael, but I think Andy makes his 10th title defense.

I just like world-class judo > black belt BJJ. Kim's never been submitted and I don't think he's ever been close to being submitted. Granted, Maia's the best BJJ player he's fought, but Kim's judo is SOOO good.

Could be wrong, but read 16-1 for his tested level, which is way above any natural possibly level.

I was thinking the same thing, the only thing that worries me us the weight cut, Maia seemed more suited for 185. If he gets the cut down he could make waves, none of those WW wrestlers want anything to do with his ground game.

This is a great matchup of 2 high end guys, I think Maia will control the fight on the ground for a decision. Stungun is quite a grappler himself, he'll defend well but come up just short.

Hopefully Tito can pull out one last classic performance but I'm not holding my breath.

The menjivar/Easton fight should be entertaining as hell & I'm excited to see Khabib fight again (another tough fight for the kid).
