Habs have a franchise goalie, discussion ends there IMO.

Prospects- Habs
Goalies- Habs
Forwards- Without Kessel, Habs. Now, even with a slight Habs edge.
Defense- Habs
Don't know the two remaining.

A rookie GM with how many weeks on the job?

I'll bite.

Prospect vs prospect: Habs just take this one. Its close though.
Goalie vs goalie: Habs by a landslide
Forward vs forward: Leafs - better top end guys, but less depth
Defence vs defence: Ill take Leafs again here.
Management vs management: Too early to tell with Bergevin only working the Draft so far.
Coaches vs coaches: Leafs until we see how Therrien does.

Overall Who is the better team?

Habs because Carey Price makes all the difference.

Prospect - Leafs. Their AHL team is miles ahead of the Bulldogs.
Goalie - Habs. No Leafs goalie comes close to Price.
Forward - Kessel and Lupul puts Leafs' forward ahead of the Habs. With the addition of JVR, they also got bigger.
Defense - Leafs again. With Markov's health questioned so much, they don't have a #1 dman. Subban also took a step back last year while Gardiner showed up and Phaneuf is still a #1.
Management - newbie GM vs a GM who already won the Cup. Leafs also spend the most on their front office than any other team. Leafs take this.
Coaches - Therrien... sorry but he's a retread. Even half the Habs fanbase hated this hiring.

I think they are decently close in most the categories. But as said, having a franchise goalie puts Montreal on top.

I guess Burkes experience is a large factor though

You could be right. I admit I know Toronto's D better. I would take Gorges and Subban on the Leafs any day. I didn't include Beaulieu or Tinordi.

Is doesn't mean anything. I'm conviced Bergevin is a better GM and future will show.

A lot of these things go hand-in-hand. For example, on paper you could give Defense to the Leafs quite easily but the Leafs defensive core has been one of the most poorly coached ones in the league. The Habs will play a better game with less star players which is because the coaches know what to do with them. And if the coaching is good, that ladders up to management. So who wins really? I don't think it's quite as black-and-white as saying so-and-so is better. If one team has a better prospect pool, shouldn't they win the Management category too? See what I'm saying?

It does, because you can't compare the body of work..

I'm not saying one way or the other, I'm reserving judgement... Anyone who can make this call today, can also help me pick my lottery numbers...

Prospects: Habs
Remember, AHL success isn't the only way to measure how deep a prospect pool is. Before the draft, I would have said the Leafs. With the additions of Galchenyuk, Collberg, Thrower and Bozon in the first few rounds, Habs prospect pool has received a MAJOR boost.

Goalie: Habs
Reimer will be good. Scrivens, not so much. Price is leaps and bounds better than any goalie that the Leafs have, both on the current roster and in their prospect pool.

Forwards: Leafs
Easily. Habs had a great first line of Cole-Desharnais-Pacioretty but after that, not much to show for in terms of scoring. Their bottom 6 looks a bit better than the Leafs, but overall, Toronto has a much stronger 12-man unit going.

Defense: Close but I'll go with Habs
I was a bit disappointed by their dealing of Schenn and Komisarek is still not what he used to be. Phaneuf is what he is. The rest of the D-core just don't match up against a core that is led by a healthy Markov, Subban and Gorges.

Management: Leafs
Habs management is still brand-spanking new, so it's hard to tell. I'll go with Toronto for the time being.

Coaching: Leafs
Again, Therrien may be a re-thread but we don't know how he'll do with a new core. I like Carlyle better anyway.

Lool so much more than management than just the GM. Ex head scouts, Timmins>>>Morrision.

Also Leafs management are a bunch of lawyers, while the Habs actually have hockey guys.

Leafs fan saying the Habs are slightly better. Having a franchise goalie is huge compared to playing nobodies between the pipes.

I just have a hard time giving the edge to any group who gave up value for Scott Gomez. Scouts are a big part of trades, what were they thinking?
