you can't simply not include Oduya. He is going to playing as a Hawk next year. Hammer, maybe...maybe not. That's the only piece I see being moved. He will probably try Montador and Frolik to no avail. I'd rather not trade Hammer though.

Montador = NMC. Can submit a ten-team no-trade list, but they might be the only ones able to offer a substantially legitimate package for him.

Crank both of their contracts up to 8 mil cap hits. Need to make $3.4M in cap space for that to happen - pretty doable.

If T&K wouldn't be willing to sign contracts like that, then the Hawks have bigger issues than the salary cap, I think.

With the Jets back in Winnipeg, signing Toews to a retirement contract could be difficult.

No one really knows with Kane, but I highly doubt he will play in Buffalo until the very end of his career, if that. He seems like the kind of big fish that would avoid small ponds.

When has Toews ever said that he'd actually want to play in Winnipeg? Seems like the kind of guy that wants to captain this team his whole career, win multiple Cups, and have his name hanging in the sky some day.

When do players ever really come out and say stuff like that? I can't recall very many. It's mostly fan speculation.

It's definitley doable. It's basically the cost of Hjalmarsson or Bolland, who in 3 years will likely be replaced anyway. I think a big part of it depends on what happens with the new CBA. If the rumors of a homegrown player exemption prove to be true, it'll be very easy for the Hawks to keep both. Being able to take one of those contracts and have it not count against the cap would be perfect.

$8 million seems to be the range where most of the elite players in the game get paid. I could see it being more if one of them wins an Art Ross or Hart trophy or two in the next couple of seasons.

people need to realize that if the Hawks sign Parise and Suter, the next 2 guys out the door the following season will be Hossa and Keith.

Once you get Suter, Keith now becomes moveable. The Hawks can do this knowing that at least one of their young dmen (Clendening, Leddy, Olsen, Johns) will step up and be a top 4 dman by 2013-14... Also the return for Keith would be very big on a decent cap hit....Keith's play has gone down since 2010, and it is easy to see. but he is still one of the best in the league, so moving him wont be hard at all..

not saying to trade these guys, but its the most logical moves that opens up a ton of cap space.

Hossa is simple as he just will become to unaffordable at his age and we will have plenty of young guys ready to step in and take his place... he controls what team he goes to, but Hossa could be moved in 2013-14 which avoids cap hell once again

Keith won't be going anywhere. With where defensemen prices are lately, he's paid like a #2 or #3 guy for the rest of his career.

I disagree.

Keith is the most likely Hawk not named Hossa to be moved ONLY if the Hawks land Suter...

if not, then he isnt available as we dont have anything to replace him like Suter easily could...

If Stan moved Keith ahead of Kane, then he would need his head examined. Even with Keith's slight drop in play the last 2 years - he contract has become one of the biggest bargains in the NHL. And it will only get better with time.

Not to mention...Keith has a full NMC, where Kane's NMC hasn't kicked in yet.

Keith won't get moved. There is 0% of chance that this happens. Keith will retire as Hawk and the last to wear #2

Keith deserves to have his number retired?

Why?

Last I checked, Steve Larmer's number doesn't hang in the UC, and he deserves it ten times more than Keith.

LOL at Keith's number being retired.

Also, despite what some people think I think that contract may actually turn sour on the Hawks at some point. There's still 11 years on it, SO much can happen in that time. It's one of the reasons I can't stand those long term deals.

not to mention that he's been phoning it in since he signed it.

That, or he magically forgot how to hit the net.

I'd say Oduya would be the first to go if Suter is signed. Of course you may be hard pressed to find a team that wants him. Keith's relatively tame contract likely keeps him here, certainly not his play in the last 2 years.

As much as everyone here hates him, Oduya just signed his contract, and it has a NTC to boot.

He's going not moving anytime soon.

When he retires in 13 years, he will be the best D scorer in the franchise history and Top5 in games played.
Has a Norris & Cup as Hawk, maybe more.

First of all, we wouldn't trade our best defenseman.

Second of all, I really doubt that we'd be able to trade him even if we wanted to, which we don't, due to his contract.

Third.... seriously, we're not trading Keith. Or Hossa. Or Kane. Delusional fans really need to stop imputing their biased opinions in as if it's subjective reality.

And finally, just take a lot around our division. Columbus still sucks. Detroit and Nashville got worse. St. Louis and Chicago stayed about the same.

I'm liking our odds to finish 1st or 2nd in the Central next season as is, though signing an additional guy or two would be nice. Don't think it's as critical as some people seem to think it is, however.
