Not really because the Avs don't need anymore depth we need more top end talent.

1) Dallas doesn't really have what we're looking for in defensemen and they'd be reluctant to trade any wingers we liked. From the Stars side, I can't see them giving up any building blocks of their franchise for Stastny (and they shouldn't - he's not worth it compared to Benn and Eriksson)

2) That brings us to draft picks/prospects. Which I think is the solution

3) My fellow Avs fans will give you his PPG numbers, but they've declined and like Staal you're talking about a player who is 1-2 years away from impending UFA.

The real question is if Stastny/Avs management want to continue the relationship and at what price. Most Avs fans would like the salary at or below what he is currently making. If they can't exchange contract numbers until next year, then he's likely off the block until then. But if he did go, I think you're looking at a combo of draft picks/prospects from the Stars. Then ultimately I think you come full circle again - not sure the Avs really need picks/prospects as much as someone who could step in right now NHL-ready.

Based on all that, I just don't think the Stars are a good fit. I think there's a lot of teams out there that could fill our needs better than the Stars. Sorry.
His 'declining' numbers are over a specific period of 1 year. [2011] He was doing fine at the beginning of 2010-11 and he was fine for the last part of 2012. People keep IGNORING that...I'm not sure why.

Furthermore, why the hell would the Avs want to trade him when his value is at it's lowest??

Fans of every team that wants him puts out a trade proposal intended to lowball the Avs and when Avs fans decline because for the most part, we don't want to trade him now, we are then told his salary is horrible and he's a #2 guy. The reality of it all is that they saw him play in the World Championships, they know he's a very good player who's had varying results playing under a very poor coach in Colorado.

By the way, he's not '1 to 2 years away' from UFA. He's exactly TWO years away from UFA. There's a difference.

A third would have little value in a deal for Benn or Eriksson.

The Avs need a top line scoring W, and a top pairing LHD. They have a plethora of young players, but they need proven guys. They have a bunch of young D just waiting for a chance in the NHL. They have some of the deepest G prospects in the league. About the only place they aren't deep is F, and yet they have a few guys who, given another year or two of development, could find a spot on the team.

But, with the young talent currently playing in the NHL, it's not like the Avs are going to have a bunch of available spots.

So, if you want what the Avs have (Stastny) you have to give them what they need, not what you think it should be worth.

With all that being said, I don't see any teams giving up a 1st pairing LHD or a top scoring W for Stastny. And the Avs will be more than happy to keep him.
This reminds me of so many Blues threads when people ask for our players. Most fans don't seem to understand this. Teams aren't going to give up useful players for players they don't need just because it's perceived by others as far market value.

Benn or Eriksson would be the most interesting trade chips for Colorado.

If Stars ask for Stastny Avs would ask for Loui because he's the only guy (I say this because Benn is obviously the #1 going forward in Dallas) that would fit a need on the Avs, Stars would decline that of course and that would probably be the end of all talks between our two teams.

Benn and Eriksson aren't trade chips. If they were we'd be asking for Duchene and not Stastny.

two of:
Faksa
Oleksiak
Campbell
Larsen
1st round pick
+
one of:
Glennie
R. Smith
Daley
Chiasson
Vincour
2nd & 4th

is what I would offer. If there's nothing there that's enticing, a deal can't be made.

You ask me why I used the word declining, and then you admit his value is at its lowest?

Anyways this is moot he's not going to be traded until 2013 or at one of the deadlines (hence the 1-2 years from FA, not 737 days - and yeah, I calculated that for you. Happy? If you see this message tomorrow btw, it's going to be 736, and so on..)

If teams want a 2C with those credentials and a cheaper price tag, Derek Roy is available from Buffalo.

Which is why a deal can't be made, we want to make the playoffs next year, prospects won't help us do that.

Not a good partners. There's no reason for the Avs to sell low and we're not parting with Loui or Benn.

We don't want your futures. We don't want to trade Stastny when his value is at an all-time low. Get real guys. We don't want your scraps for our #1b Center who had a bad couple seasons

We could care less.

Why the heck would Dallas make a deal for Stastny? He's not even on the trading block, and if he was, you can bet that some other team will outbid the Stars. Dallas doesn't have the pieces, and are not giving up their core players (Eriksson/Benn) for a downgrade.

Scraps?

I understand you don't want to trade Stastny, but keep the hyperbole to yourself.

OP is a Stars fan and he's asking what we would want for Stastny, we simply responded.
