I don't want this to be a Luongo thread now, but how does his value go up? There's one less team that needs a goalie. Before, it sounded like Pavelec was going to the Jets or the KHL, it didn't sound like any other teams were after Pavelec.

Regardless, good deal for the Jets IMO. It would've been an interesting situation if Pavelec did leave the Jets.

Cap hit is fine but I'd really have preferred a three year contract

Definitely thrilled to have him back. Mostly I'm glad all the rumors can be put to bed....

It's about right, IMO.

And further validates my belief that Quick will get $6.75M to $7.0M.

Yikes.
less than 4 per for a quality starter?

Yikes is not the word I would use to describe this.

I would use the phrase "Great contract for the Jets"

this is a good deal for Winnipeg.

Good deal. Will be a very good deal if he continues to get better.

Please kind sir, explain to me how? I would like to hear your logic.

Good signing for Winnipeg. If he doesn't work out in a couple years, at least the cap hit won't be crippling. Like...5.33 mill (couldn't help myself).

Side note, IMO this contract will be minimum Schneider will get. Sets a base salary/term for him that will be used as a guideline.

I think that is a very reasonable amount for Pavelec. I think the Jets really wanted a lower cap hit, so they had to give Pavelec a long term to get the $ amount down. I thought Ondrej played very well last season, but his career GAA of 2.99 is pretty high. Luckily, he's only 25, so he'll be right in his prime for the duration of the contract.

Great deal for both sides. Despite his pedestrian numbers, anyone who watched the Jets last year knows this is a young guy who battles and keeps his team in games they have no business being in. He's a workhorse and he's an integral part of the team.

Great job by the Jets to get it done under the $4m mark.

Fair price considering his accomplishments so far and his future potential. In a few years this could be a steal depending on how Andrei turns out.

Fair deal for both parties. Pavelec isn't a world beater but he can handle big workloads. If the Jets can get safer D-men his stats will look better for sure.

I like Pavelec a lot but I'm not sold on him just yet. He has played on poor teams with low expectations for a while, and thus people don't read much into his numbers(career .907sv%. 2.99GAA). However if his numbers become better as the team get better this will be a great contract.

I could explain why this is a terrible deal but I would much rather let the excellent Arctic Ice Hockey website do it for me:

Why Pavalec resembles a 2 million dollar goalie not a 4 million dollar one

http://www.arcticicehockey.com/2012/...nt-not-4m-year

Why he wasn't let down by his team

http://www.arcticicehockey.com/2012/...wn-by-his-team

Enjoy.

You Canucks fans can keep dreaming of expecting to get anything of value in return for Luongo.
