Prior to the draft, Roy for McNeill made sense, but now, we should focus on other considerations, like having a center who's over 22 years old.

I would do a Roy for Chris Stewart 1 for 1. Both coming off bad seasons, a change of scenery couldn't hurt. Roy will be a UFA and Stewart will still be a RFA.

I think that's fair. Or pretty close.

It never did for Chicago.

Way to read what I bolded. McNeill for Roy isn't worth it for Chicago. I'd gladly deal McNeill in a trade that would land us a dynamite top-six center. Unfortunately, Roy isn't a dynamite center and is a pending unrestricted free agent. If you want Pirri, that makes sense.

I would be alright with Pirri, but I think more than anything, I would want some grit/size/nastiness coming back from the Hawks in a Roy deal. What do you think they could offer in that department?? Bickell/Hayes maybe?? Think the Hawks would do Roy for Pirri, Hayes and a pick??

In all likelihood, they'd reject it. You guys could have Pirri, Bickell, Lalonde, and a 2nd. It's a mix of quality and quantity.

Ya see, that IDK if a lot of Sabre fans would do, but I personally would at least have to think about it. Livin' in Illinois as a Sabres fan, I've seen some of the Hawks farm first hand, and I really like Brandon Pirri, I don't think people realize that he's no slouch. #2 center potentially, two way guy with a HELL of a shot, wins faceoffs, strong leadership + character guy (which would be a welcome change from Roy's attitude), reminds me of a guy that used to play for us named Michael Peca a little bit. And Bickell would be a welcome sight on our fourth line, dude plays w/ a HUGE chip on his shoulder. Bring him in and bring Gaustad back, that's a MEAN fourth line.

BTW, huge props on the Anthony Rizzo display pic. Kid is gonna be a monster. Go Cubs Go.

Dynamite? Who are you blowing up??? Gees....Roy gets 60-70 points a season before his injury I would call that Dynamite for a second line center. If he returns to for this year it would be a steal.

Get real, McNeill would be a throw in if you want a "dynamite"(what ever that means) top six center.

Pirri and Bolland for Roy

I'd throw in Buffalo's 2013 2nd to make it happen, since Chicago doesn't have one in 2013.

I'd go UFA route for the back-up goalie. I know that makes Sabres fans cringe, but imagine the defense:

Hjalmarsson - Myers
Regehr - Sekera
Ehrhoff - Sulzer

See what Dallas just got for Ribeiro? That's the kind of return you can expect for Roy.

How about Viktor Stalberg and Brandon Pirri for Derek Roy and a 3rd in 2013? Buffalo gets a winger to play with Ennis/Hodgson/Grigorenko and a potential top-6 centre/winger who's not far from contributing in the NHL and Chicago gets a 2nd line centre.

I think Buffalo would want Dave Bolland and a 2013 1st rounder back in exchange for Derek Roy.

2nd line C's aren't worth much more than a mid to late 2nd round pick if you trade them out of conference.

Massive overpayment. Just give them a 2nd and call it a day. Add a mid range prospect if needed.

Who cares if he's a pending UFA? You know that you could take to him before the deal is made. And find out if he'd like to sign for you guys.

This right here. After looking at what Ribeiro got in return, and considering Roy is on his way to UFA status, and given his most recent production (because you're only as good as your most recent body of work)....I just can't see giving up all that much for Roy. *shrug*

Exactly. If we're getting someone like Roy or Laich for the other conference, we pay rate. There is absolutely no reason the Hawks should have to pay 3X, 4X, 5X the going rate.

This couldn't be further from the truth. Would you give Bolland up for a 2nd round pick to Montreal? No.

There are two things that would hurt Roy's value in a trade. First, the season he just had and second, that he'll be a UFA next summer.

He's still a good player and still holds good value in a trade.

why should we trade Bolland for Roy? Why should the Hawks add to that?

Roy is nothing more than a rental.

I wish we could stop with this roy for center prospects talk. After this draft the sabres have plenty of center prospects.
