They are. Not the most but you never hear about anything theat is happening with them until it happens. Most trade rumors are wrong. Sometimes , like this year, it's obvious they will be pushing for certain players but things like the Stuart trade and Hossa signing came out of nowhere.

I don't think they are locked down the tightest, but you never hear of anything that is really happening behind the scenes.

Islanders, easily. What's going on over there is so secret even they have no idea what they're doing.

Not sure, but I always love when TSN tries to ask Burke about something at the draft. "I'd tell you but I'd have to kill you."

There's actually a 31st team in the NHL, and has been since 2004. I am tired of living in fear, and ready to go public with what I've uncovered and

The Blues are like this too.

Notice how nobody saw the blockbuster between the Blues and Avs coming last year. Both teams operate pretty similar.

They do an amazing job tho(all teams) considering most GM's are friends and many players from opposing teams are friends so guaranteed a ton of GM's and players know what soon to be UFA's and even RFA's want to do. As far as trades go it makes perfect sense to be low key so you don't get out bid for the guy you want.

The Sharks for sure. I'm pretty sure DW holds staff meetings with all SJS employees where he publicly execute anyone in the org who leaks stuff as a warning.

I think there's a difference between being secret about trade negotiations and being secret about day-to-day stuff or having almost no interviews or press with team officials (which is part of the case with Colorado where us fans have no idea the direction the team is going in or what they're trying to do outside of mostly rumours/speculation including why a trade might have been made or info on a past event).

Most teams are secretive about trades, but the Devils and Avs take secrecy to a new level.

With the devils, pretty much everything you hear is filtered by management and what they want you to hear.

With the Avs, the idea is for you not to hear anything.

The extent to which the Avs take secrecy is actually quite remarkable, especially with injuries.

Injured players cannot talk to the media. The team won't comment on how a player got injured, what his status is, and usually the severity of the injury. Players just magically end up on the injury list after games, and magically end up back on the roster a while later.

A great example of this is Mark Olver injury. He just magically dissapeared from camp, to where we find out a few days later he was hurt. He goes like three months without any word as to if he is practicing, feeling better/worse, ect ect before we get word he's back to full contact and will be headed to the AHL, which he does like a week later.

Pretty standard procedure.

Also the Avs have a policy on not commenting on contracts. You never know what is happening in that regard.

The Sharks are absurdly secretive. We have not even heard our qualification list yet....

The devils are like the freemasons of the NHL. They probably have some crazy rituals involving fire and talismans to usher in their new players.

Probably the Leafs. Nobody ever knows when they are going after FA's or big name trades.

Tampa's seemed secretive about some weird things. Boucher's refusal to explain his scar is just plain bizzare. If I remember correctly all he's said is that its not hockey related and he won't tell anyone anything about it until his kids know. I have no idea how old his kids are, but I think most kids would be pretty curious about why their dad has a massive scar across his face and can't think of too many things that would be so bad that he couldn't tell them. Then I've read there a rumors it was from a cat scratch, but he denies that, and I can't imagine why he couldn't tell that to his kids. Either way, his refusal to say anything about it seems kind of odd.

Also I remember the Caps beat writers saying during the 2011 playoffs that there was a 2x4 sitting on the middle of the floor in the Lightning locker room that no one was allowed to touch and they refused to say anything about it other than the fact that Boucher had used it to "illustrate a point".
