Is this the year....

Garth trolls us hard and makes a splash on 7/1?

We have a bit to go to get to the floor. He has to accomplish that somehow.

1. I think PA will stay. (Wishful thinking) (Think fair market price, but probably 1-2 years more then any of us like) Garth knows he can't just let him walk.

2. Garth signs/ trades for a big name. Ryan, Suter or someone just below them etc. Can he do it? Will Wang let him?

3. We need to make noise in this league and NOW! Give the future something to look forward to in Nassau or Brooklyn. The rebuild has to end, THIS YEAR!!!

4. Does DP stay or go?

5. Whose going to emerge as a leader besides Tavares?

I don't think Suter or Parise are possible. I think the Wild offer Parise a 12 year deal worth 80 million or something like that. Pens offer Suter 13 years and 85 million or something like that. Very frontloaded.

However, Bobby Ryan is available. Bobby Ryan doesn't have a NTC/NMC. Bobby Ryan has a manageable contract. Bobby Ryan fills a need, short and long term.

If Garth wants to make a statement, he can. He points to the fact that we have assets available, so trade them for Ryan.

Bobby Ryan is realistic. Suter and Parise are not.

We need to overpay for Bobby Ryan. We have tons of cap space (and his cap hit is very friendly to begin with). We have plenty of pieces to add. He would instantly give JT somebody who can compete on his level. It would also severely help the transfer of a move to a new arena. Honestly it's the best thing this team can do. If they land him-the price will be steep. But this is why you have smart signings, and stay low in cap room-so you can pull the trigger on big trades that makes sense-and this does! Get it done Snow, and you'll make a believer out of many fans.

Funny this was just posted. I was just discussing how I STRONGLY believe our whipping boy Josh Bailey will record 40+ points this season. I've always been high on him, but Isles management and coaching staff have never put him in a position to succeed since day 1. He's still only 22 and has raw talent, he just lacks the mental fortitude on a consistent basis. Kid's gotta stop being such a pretty boy and get some swagger.

If Captain Jack gives him second line minutes and he's paired with good linemates for a change, I don't see why he can't net 50+ points.

If he was in the Detroit system, he would've been properly developed - not rushed - and would be a Calder Trophy candidate going into this season.

I think with the addition of Vis and one of Donny/CDH, our D will improve, but most importantly our offense will improve as a result of having these puck-moving d-men in our lineup. We'll sign one more d-man in the coming week or two.

I'm not willing to make any bets on who our 2C will be, but I just hope it's not Strome.

Thats the important thing here: will Wang allow it.
I really hope Snow gets on here to hear what the people think.
I feel strong about some of these possible pickups come July1.
For defense we should try to get these guys at a reasonable price;
just two of these guys will boost our defense.
Bryan Allen, » D 31yrs - $2,900,000 from Car
Carlo Colaiacovo, » D 29yrs - $2,125,000 from STL
Greg Zanon, » D 32yrs - $1,933,333 from BOS
Sheldon Souray, » D 35yrs - $1,650,000 from DAL
Jason Garrison, » D 27yrs - $675,000 from FLA
Our offense can be pumped up by grabbing 2 or 3 of these Vets to mentor the boys;
Travis Moen, » LW 30yrs - $1,500,000 from MTL
Alexandre Giroux, » LW 31yrs - $825,000 from CLB
Lee Stempniak, » RW 29yrs - $1,900,000 from CGY
Radek Dvorak, » RW 35yrs - $1,500,000 from DAL
Olli Jokinen, Olli » C 33yrs - $3,000,000 from CGY
PAul Gaustad, » C 30yrs - $2,300,000 from NAS
Torrey Mitchell, » C 27yrs - $1,366,667 from SAN
Philippe Dupuis, » C 27yrs - $650,000 from TOR
Again you all probably have someone you liked to add to this list.
This list is possible to grab 2 dmen and 2or3 front guys.
2 guys i would love to see on this team would be;
Ryan Suter, » D 27yrs - $3,500,000 from NAS and I know i preiously said we could sign him for 3 yrs 14 mil. just remember he doesnt have a cup, but i do understand.
Make him a reasonable offer.
Andrei Kostitsyn, » RW 27yrs - $3,250,000 from NAS, this guys is a run and gun kinda guy, just like our guys.
And last, lets pick up Tim Thomas to make us whole.

We have a bit to go to get to the floor. He has to accomplish that somehow.

Depends how the CBA goes.. Most accounts have the ceiling and floor dropping down.

1. I think PA will stay. (Wishful thinking) (Think fair market price, but probably 1-2 years more then any of us like) Garth knows he can't just let him walk.

Funny how last year 99.9999% of us were pissed he was even retained.. You guys all remember that right?
I think he is as good as gone though.

2. Garth signs/ trades for a big name. Ryan, Suter or someone just below them etc. Can he do it? Will Wang let him?

I would love nothing more. But I won't get my hopes up..

3. We need to make noise in this league and NOW! Give the future something to look forward to in Nassau or Brooklyn. The rebuild has to end, THIS YEAR!!!

That it does.

4. Does DP stay or go?

Really depends on CBA.. If there is an Amnesty clause I pray to the hockey gods that Wang really goes thru with the buyout..

5. Whose going to emerge as a leader besides Tavares?

Hamonic.. I still recall one of his first few games at what 20 years old? Against the Flyers watching him grab Pronger from behind in a choke hold type grab and thought to myself this guy has balls hes gonna be great.

It's probably close to Philly's offer but I don't think it trumps that.. Prospects are prospects Matt Read had a diesel season this year..

I think PA is going to walk as well. I don't really mind. Don't see him repeating his point totals from this season. Would rather have a guy with a little more defensive awareness playing in his spot anyways. His lousy backchecking kinda counteracts his point production.

OTOH I don't think Snow has to go gonzo in the trade market either. As a matter of fact, he's in a comfy position to have the calls come to him. Reason being that guys that had a bit of an off year prior to their UFA qualification are likely to sign here for less money. There are guys on this team they can play with that will boost their numbers leading to a better offer in a year or two.

We're in better shape heading into July 1st than we've been in a long time.

Now, the labor dispute could really put a wrench in all of this but we'll see.

I have a feeling Garth is going to sign Peter Mueller to flank Tavares. He'll get off to a ridiculous start then be gone for the season 20 games in. Bailey will be moved up to the wing to perform admirably getting 40-45 points.

I don't see any situation where Garth doesn't make a bold move. I mean, the lights have gone out early for the Islanders. Rebuild, shmebuild. It isn't working.

Of course he could keep things status quo because our owner is a ********* and our GM is a retard, but you would think a human being with life has some sort of brain and realizes he needs to do something asap to save this franchise.

Or.. we could stay status quo. Do nothing, have 11 people there opening night and Wang could say "At least we aren't getting killed out there everynight"

Say a prayer, because we need one. Or five. Or ten.

Isles need a big name forward. Parise would make me the happiest player on LI so we know that won't happen. Ryan is very possible though. We need to reach the cap floor. If we sign P.A and pick up Ryan and another legitimate defenseman then I like our chances. If they do create a cap floor how far under it do you think the Isles would be. Its ridiculous that Im hoping the CBA creates something to make my team spend money.

Hamonic "A"

What reason does anyone have to believe the Isles will spend any more than they have to this year? Until I see something convincing, I'll expect the worst.

What's the worst? We lose PAP, sign someone of Boyes' ilk, sign Jurcina (ugh), and have hyped thrilling camp battles between Kabanov, Strome, and Nino and various bottom pair and depth defensemen.

Unless someone actually has a good reason to think that's not the most likely scenario, it's what I'm going to believe.

Cheers,

Dan-o
