He didn't show up half the time because he only played with ovie and backstrom half the time. The other half he was playing with Laich and idk, Johannson maybe? Semin has arguably one of the best shots in the league, put him with arguably the best playmaker in the league, **** will pop off. Guarenteed.

There is no denying that Semin is fantastically skilled, but his compete level and motivation have been called into question - not just once. With Yashin/Kozlov/Kvasha fresh in the minds of many Isles fans... I just don't know.

So it's ok for a guy to only show up when he's playing ovie? That's ridiculous there's a big reason that semin has yet to be signed long term by a well run organization in DC as well as why he's not being highly touted in this horrendous free agent class. There's also been talks about him jumping over to the khl.. If it was a short term deal high dollars I'm in but I want NOTHING to do with a long term deal with this guy.

What about Steve Ott? Dallas is trying to trade him... gotta think that he could be had for a fair price and he doesn't have a bad contract at all. Provides toughness and can even be a 35+ pt producer for us.

This could be the big year where we draft at 6 or 7, instead of the usual top 5.

I wonder if they might be able to sign Semin to a big one or two year contract? Semin and his agent might accept such a deal if they're not seeing the kinds of long-term deals they like. Then you'd get a motivated Semin for short term playing for the big payday. By then some kids will be ready, and let the NYR sign him to a long-term deal and he can go into semi-retirement on the ice.

I'd be all for that, maybe a trade can be set up to land them Ott and another D-man which would be nice.

I think it would be unusual for Semin to come to a team with no other Russians.

Cheers,

I hate to say it.

I hate to say it...

This could even be posted in the "Bobby Ryan" thread.

There is one item most of us are forgetting which will highly impact how the Isles perform next year.

What if the Isles sign Ryan?
What if the Isles sign Suter?
What if the Isles sign Parise?
What if the Isles manage to sign/trade for all three?

And the Isles still have Cappy behind the bench?

Then they will continue to get outcoached and lose unless Tavares boots him off the bench and takes control.

That is Because Semin comes with the Stigma of being lazy and enigmatic .
Many team will shy away from him. What do you consider a good contract for him if we did make a offer ?

I think that depends. Yashin did at least give you 70 points. Was just WAY WAY overpaid.
No one would have complained about him if he was making alot less or even if he had a shorter term.

Didn't the Caps try this with him already ?
I think they paid him 6.5 this past season in hopes he would be motivated ?

Oh, I didn't realize that. Never mind $$ motivating him. We'll just have to rely on Capuano's superior psychological techniques.

In some other threads, I have tried to be positive, but this one is all too familiar. Every year, right before July 1st, we all get our hopes up. By July 5th, all of the "WTF is Snow doing?!" threads pop up and the wishful thinking gets shot down like it never happened.

I see this year as no different.

In a rare occurrence.........+1

Wang is not spending one more dime than he has to.

The Islanders are nothing more than an asset who's costs must be controlled for the next three years.

I know how u feel Spasm37, I yell these 3 words (WTF) every July 5.
Not going the big name route, we could still build this team July1
if we have 6 guys
Jay Pandolfo LW 1,400,000
Marty Reasoner C 1,350,000
Pierre Parenteau LW 1,250,000
Mark Eaton D 2,500,000
Milan Jurcina D 1,600,000
Steve Staios D 1,600,000
who will not be with us and from their salaries we could pick up;
Jason Garrison, » D - FLA 27 - $675,000
Matt Gilroy, » D - OTT 27 $1,000,000
Daniel Winnik, » - L - SAN 27 - $950,000
Lee Stempniak, » R - CGY 29 - $1,900,000
Jordin Tootoo, » R - NAS 29 - $1,250,000
Klye Wellwood, » C - WIN 29 - $700,000
We could also make a nice 3yrs/$10 mil offer to Justin Schultz.
Let go young and if were still in the race for another top 3 pick in 2013.
Drop the weight that isnt producing and grab some vets or picks.

Hey guys, Flames fan here with a quick question that I don't think warrants it's own thread...

I notice you guys are pretty down on Jurcina. Having not watched much Islanders hockey, I'm wondering why you're so eager to move on from a guy with 173 hits, and 113 blocked shots last year.

I notice he was -34, I'm guessing that speaks to some problems in his own end. Do you think he was being asked to do more than he's able to (maybe playing too many minutes in too big of a role), or is he just lacking in hockey sense?

Cheers!

I think jurcina was asked to do too much. He was the only other islander besides martin that hit consistently, but he was never supposed to be more than a 5-6. I think he was given a bum rap..

Again, he can only be offered a max ELC contract from any team.
