This has to be the most boring off season for us of all time, I hate this. Surely its due to the CBA bargaining. I'm wondering though, lets say the owners got their way and the salary cap went down to $50 million, what would happen then? Wouldn't a lot of teams be ****ed because they are way over it? Also would that deal or...well whatever deal is completed kick in for this season?

Head over to the BOH for updates: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/fo...play.php?f=124

In a nutshell, if the cap goes down from where it was set in June, it's negotiated as to how one complies (and documented in the "transition" section, as you can see in the 2005 CBA). Could be things will be negotiated to roll back salaries.

A 20yr/old who hasn't even hit a PPG average or played more than 65 games in either of his first two seasons = 6mil/yr...?

poor eberle, will probably sign the same even though he is 10 times better then hall at this point (and was also in juniors)

I see you're another who's enamored by Eberle's 30 seconds of greatness in junior.

Hall is so much better than Eberle it's not even funny. The Oilers are very smart to lock up Hall right now, before he's put up the counting numbers that would have gotten him an even bigger contract. If the Oilers are really smart, they'll wait until after this next season to sign Eberle, after his counting numbers deflate from their high percentages. I think Eberle will be closer to 50 points than 70 points next year, and then the Oilers can sign him to a reasonable contract, rather than one now based on his inflated totals from unsustainable percentages and pillow-soft minutes.

i guess you didn't watch eberle during the world jr tournaments, because eberle was the leader on that team offensively.

and even in the nhl so far eberle has been better offensively.

Not a fan of either. In fact, all the youngsters on the Oilers roster are overrated. We'll see about Yakupov.

Or you could completely ignore my post.

Eberle plays some of the softest minutes in the NHL and still had a negative raw Corsi. He was the beneficiary of an unsustainable 19% personal shooting and 13% on-ice shooting. He's just not any good. Hall played tougher minutes and had a positive Corsi, and he had very normal percentages. Plus Hall is much faster and much better defensively and Eberle couldn't even gain the zone when Hall was out for injury. Hall is so much better than Eberle, I don't care what Eberle did in juniors.

I agree, but I wouldn't say 'he isn't any good' either. He'd be a great fit for this team right now for instance.

He's also very young, and while I suspect Hall will be better, Eberle has a lot of room to grow and improve his game. He's had a pretty solid start to his career so far.

Fine, "not any good" was hyperbole, but Eberle will be a clear step down from Hall/RNH/Yakupov in my opinion.
