Watched part of the first period of the Remparts-Sea Dogs game. Grigorenko backchecked well and used his rangy body to his advantage in the defensive zone.

Extremely smooth skater for his size. He looks effortless out there. Very cerebral.

He had an assist on Adam Erne's second goal of the game by receiving a pass at the Sea Dogs blue line, skated in on a developing 2-on-1, sent a saucer pass to Erne backdoor for an open net.

Hell of an intelligent, skilled and smooth player. I think Buffalo got a steal in him at 12, no question.

Scored the empty netter too. Up to 22 points in 10 games.

Puts him up to 10/300 on the season. Pegula needs to throw some money at Yanic Perreault. Buffalo has struggled at the face-off dot for so many years.

He's actually up to 85/173 (49%) now.
He's gotten better lately after being atrocious for a few games (last five games: 12/22, 6/13, 14/20, 2/6, 9/12).

Maybe Patrice Bergeron really helped him out during that training?

Dunno, he had a game soon after that and was still awful.
I think he's just getting back to normal, as he was pretty good last year.

Grigorenko with a 4 point night against Acadie-Bathurst tonight. Bringing him up to 11 goals 19 assists 30 points in 15 games averaging a nice 2 PPG, which I believe is the highest in the Q this year so far. (Tied with Josh Currie)

And Kucherov has 6 points in 3 games. I wonder if those two now can keep that 2 ppg rate whole season.

Interesting how they're rotating in and out of the lineup, due to the import rule.

Honestly, how backwards is it that in the year 2012 there's rules limiting the number of players you can dress based on nationality?

They shouldn't even be allowed to have 3 on their roster. That's because of the lock out.

Don't most leagues that aren't the top level have similar rules? The CFL does, the KHL does and I'm sure more of the smaller leagues do.

not really - many leagues (even minor hockey teams) have rules to the effect that you can't just show up and get picked by a team.

Isn't that what the draft is for? I can't believe no one else thinks it's absurd that an organization that touts itself as one of the premier development systems for the NHL effectively turns players away based on birthplace. Ladies and gentlemen, that right there is why most of your NHL pluggers are North American.

The CHL is for North American players. Other countries have their own leagues and probably appreciate the CHL helping keep all but the very best in their leagues. As I said, protectionism is very common in sports. Even the much more free market soccer leagues attempted to institute a rule with that in mind.
