Seems like a PHX/NSH bargain-bin signing, which ends with Darche being on their 2nd line/1st PP unit because of the awkward forward depth of those clubs, with an A on his jersey and he turns into a legit NHLer and household name in like 3 years from now.

Then retires cause he's already 36.

I'm sure it's all about securing a 1-way deal as it is for most guys of his sort, which is obviously completely understandable.

He will seemlessly replace Ray Whitney on the Coyotes. Ageless wonders.

Sounds like Chiarelli's annual signing of a useless, french canadian ex-habs player.

He might have a hard time finding a 1-way deal on the open market. After 10/11, he would have no problem. But after this poor follow-up season. Yeah, it's a stretch that he'll score a 1-way deal.

He probably saw the news break that Calgary signed Wideman to that ridiculous deal,, told his agent to immediately get Feaster on the phone,, Feaster responds: 4yrs $12m for Darche, welcome to Calgary

At this point in his career would have been dumb to accept a 2 way deal. He will try to fish a team in

Darche was a lot of things:

- honest, hard working, some hands, willing to go the net and 100% useless.

Seriously, he had his moments as a character depth guy who hit double-digits in goals a couple years back, but this year he was beyond bad. And it was compounded by our coaching staff's stubborn insistence that he was Ovechkin and thus, required as much ice time as possible.

Scrubbing guys like him is a step towards icing a competitive team again, so I'm on board.

The only way this makes sense is if he is going to Europe. Why TSN would even bother having an article on this is a different story.

Darche was solid enough as a Hab. He could fill in for most roles on a team up front... just not do them as well as the player you would ideally have in those roles. He worked a bit on our PP, PK, scoring lines, checking lines, press box, you name it. In the end, he's a utility player who nobody rushes out to sign in June/July. You wait until August to see if there's a #12/13/14 forward spot still open on your roster. But still, he'll have trouble getting a one-way deal again. So he'll just have to decide if guaranteed money in Europe is a better option than the risk of a 2-way deal in the NHL or not. It's his choice, and fair enough either way he wants to look at it.

With modern injury decimation, it's pretty likely he'd get some NHL time at some point, even if on a 2-way deal, and a little bit of waiver wire bouncing around might even help keep him on an NHL salary.

Wow. Maybe the most anonymous player to ever play 250 NHL games.

Darche has played 250 games? That's like "Chris Dingman won two Cups on different teams" level mind blowing.

wow. I can't believe the sentiments in this thread. as a Bruins follower, I have hated him over the past few years, but I have always said I'd want him on my team. has he fallen off? he was a beast two seasons ago. is he hurt? he is everywhere and he frustrates opponents. he tries. he chases. he hits. he scores (sometimes). his efforts sway momentum in his team's favor. unless there is something I am missing, he doesn't deserve this animosity and apathy. granted, I don't watch a lot of MTL games, but he is dynamic and a plus player (I do see that he wasn't this past season, but MTL was terrible, overall, so I don't put that on him). anybody else see him like I do? I hope he comes to the Bruins.

He went 34 years with out a one way NHL contract.....

Pierre Gauthier Montreal "mickey mouse" GM ,was the very first to give him a one way deal...Remember Gauthier is the first guy to trade a player during a period of a game too(Mike Cammalleri to Flames),and tired to charge Cammalleri $1200 for his Habs jersey....

Having said that , Darche does give it his all, a good guy ,but Montreal used this guy like a 5 million dollar man making 700,000.He played top lines in playoffs,in final mins of games down 1 goal! he played top line power play.Mind blowing misuse of a player.Montreal had a big hole in top 6 and tried to fill it with a career AHLer,not just for weeks, but for years...lol
It came to a boiling point when this year Jacques Martin was using Darche again on the pp over Eric Cole our new UFA signing,. A female reporter confronted Martin on this ,*(would Cole be a better option than Darche on PP?)and he sorta blew up at her claiming Darche was a better option?lol

To sum this all up , he got his first ever one way deal LAST YEAR, and on the one way deal he got 12 pts in 61 games missed last 21 with a concussion..Now feels he worth a one way again?

Sorry.

The guy is a good #13 forward. Honest hard worker will fill in anywhere he is asked to play. Won't complain and works hard in practice. As the 13th forward, it gives your team time for kids to develop in the minors. If a certain player is out for a game or 2, you slot him in your 3rd or 4th line. If someone is dogging it during the game, you replace him with this guy because he'll go all out.

I had no problem with him in our lineup, just that he got too much icetime especially on the PP early on last year when Cole or Kostitsyn were sitting on the bench. I think at this point in his career, a 2 way was probably his best option, but he wants to give it a shot. I think he would be great in AHL as a player/assistant coach type to transition into a future career.
