Lets start this off saying I dont normally post these and I understand a three way trade is very very very hard to pull off. I do believe that it may be the best way for Nash to get moved as there are multiple prospect pools to get a return from and you wouldn't be gutting one teams prospects. It also will help get Luongo where he wants to go. Here is a basis of trade proposal. Tweeks could be made with picks if some sides are not happy with it.
To Vancouver:
Rick Nash
2nd Round Pick - From FLA
To Florida:
Roberto Luongo
To Columbus:
David Booth (Top 6 winger and high salary(Kind of Cap Dump?)) - From VAN
Nicklas Jenson (Forward Prospect with good upside) - From VAN
Nick Bjugstad (Forward Prospect with good upside) - From FLA
2013 1st Round Pick - From VAN
Another piece from FLA?
This trade would get Luongo to FLA, Nash to VAN, and CBJ will get closer to the return they want for Nash. Jackets would want Huberdeau, but would need to add to get him. Could be the basis for something here. Let me know if I am way off.
I can tell you right away Florida will say no.
Most Vancouver fans would also say no. You might get Jensen our a 1st from us, but not both. We won't sell the farm to get Nash, as good a piece as he is. And Florida is really high on Bjugstad.
Really? Looks to me like the Jackets get a bunch of futures and absolutely nothing in the present. It would be 2015 (or later) before there's any real production coming from this, and Booth logging Nash's minutes represents a downgrade anyway.
Panthers give Bjugstad and a 2nd for Luongo? Definite pass.
I had a pick from CBJ going there as well, but I thought it was overpayment. Would love to give up another piece from the jackets to upgrade the prospect to Huberdeau, but I thought that was making the deal too far fetched and complicated.
Tweek the deal to make it fit your team and we can see how it works. I just think if the CBJ pull prospects from multiple teams it will help get a better return for them as well as not make those other teams feel like they gave up all their futures.
I'm literally 100% certain the Canucks have no interest in acquiring Nash.
$47.4m over the next 6 years for a player that needs to be sheltered in order to produce 70'ish points? A guy with a back-loaded contract who would immediately become the highest paid player on the team (by $1.7m) and would play on the 2nd line?
To Florida: Luongo, Van 2nd
To Columbus: Van 1st, Booth, Petrovic(maybe Robak if neccessary), Upshall(actual cap dump, as Booth is payed to score goals, and he does)
To Vancouver: Florida 1st, Nash
Although looking on it after the fact, there's no way Howson would do this, as he wants significant overpayment. I don't see a deal like this working out.

Not only are you suggesting the Canucks add Nash, but trade Booth to get him?

Defense prospects to CBJ don't really make sense (Murray, Moore, Savard, Goulubef, Reily, Weber, etc)
Jackets need forward prospects with top 6 potential.
Luongo wants to go to Florida but I don't think Florida has a serious interest in him. I'm sure they would rather stick with Theodore/Clemenssen(pending UFA who they might want back)/Markstrom and not give up a lot of assets then bring in Luongo.
For one, I think Florida wants to hold on to their prospects.
For another, Vancouver gets bent over. Luongo is an all star goalie, he is elite talent. And he holds a cap hit of 5.3. Rick Nash is a terrific forward and great goal scorer, but keep in mind he has a cap hit of - what is it, almost 7? That's huge from a Vancouver standpoint, and for that reason alone, Vancouver realistically probably couldn't add Nash to the team. Just because the Sedins are at 6.1.
But even if the cap hit was no concern to Van, a swap of Luongo and Nash is a swap of elite talent. I don't see any scenario where Van would have to add Booth, Jensen, and a 1st to make this deal.
People like you who don't believe in numbers are how people like me continue to make good money betting on hockey using those numbers.. Cheers =)
also, you posted that 6 minutes after I did... and there's no way you read the article in 6 minutes. Good job skipping it over.
I read enough to know that it's complete crap. His first point argues that Rick Nash isn't elite, whatever that means. Elite is such a broad term with every person holding their own definition that it seems silly to argue it at all.
Then he argues that Nash hasn't had poor teammates, which is above retarded. His teammates have been well below average first line talent. In the same argument he says that Nash doesn't elevate his linemates production at all, except when he does. The whole 2nd point is so full of flip flopping and backpedaling it's hilarious.
As soon as I read "Rick Nash is on the decline" I completely skipped that part because I haven't seen or heard anyone bother to make that claim.
And I don't bet money on hockey so you're making no money off of me. I don't need cash to enjoy the greatest sport on the planet.
i like nash but he is not worth what columbus is asking for him. his cap hit is too high and there is a clear downward trend in his stats since 08/09 season. we could maybe excuse him if he had one down year, but three in a row just doesn't fly. it is more likely than not that he continues to produce at a low level (for his salary). imo for his salary he should be at 80-85 points at least.
