Shane Doan, a UFA?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=399323

I don't put much stock in it, and I hope he remains a Coyote, even if it's after July 1st.

I can't believe this hasn't been started yet.

Just remember, an FA doesn't need to sign on July 1st like Richards or whoever did. It's not some type of d-day, he can wait till August to make his decision, he'll probably return if there's any hint that Phx will return.

Agreed, if Doan doesn't stay with the Yotes his list of destinations will be very small.

I totally missed this starting another thread...in a lame attempt to redeem myself, I offer the TSN link again.

I hope he stays with the Coyotes.

If Doan really wants to win a Cup before he retires, I think his best shot is with the Kings. They have the entire band back for another run and Doan would be an upgrade over Penner on LA's second scoring line. Even if the Kings don't repeat, their core is intact and they are good enough to contend for a Cup over the next few years.

It all depends on if there's still bad blood between him and the Kings. I don't know enough to comment. The Sharks seem like the most logical place in my opinion, but who knows?

I could see him going wherever Whitney goes actually.

Would love him in to for no more than 5m/year for 5 years...but I think he prefers the smaller markets based on some interviews I've seen

I guess I don't see all this bad blood stuff still being out there? The initial reaction, sure, but after time to see the hit, and finding out the injury was not the career ending, guy probably would not have missed even a game. I really doubt if Doan
has that much animosity that he would not look at joining a loaded team close to his home in Arizona.

Looks like the King's are still focused on Penner, but if it falls through, I am sure Lombardi will be on the hunt for a replacement, though not sure if Doan or Carter would comfortable playing left wing..

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Kings brass to meet with pending UFA Dustin Penner on Wednesday. That discussion will be important in whether or not Kings offer deal.

I believe Doan has played quite a bit of LW throughout his career (he's also played C as well).

I would also expect the sharks to have about 1 mil available for their 7th D man.
I don't think this as far off as you suggest.

Whitney got 3M last year, I gave him a 625K raise. if thats not enough, we keep clowe at the same $$$.
Doan gets about a 1M raise to go to a stable team.
Braun has been rumored as getting Demers $$$, at 1.75m he still fits.
Desi is rumored to have signed in the High 600K's, I have him at 700K.
Wingles contract has been announced (at that cap hit).
Galiardi MAY get 1.1M.... still fits.

The player I'm most unsure of is Winnik, he made 950K last year and is due a raise. I over doubled his salary and he said he wants to stay... who knows.

All this without buying out Zeus, keeping Niemi and without taking into consideration that DW is a master at manufacturing Cap$ throughout the season. So again, this isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility... especially with a couple tweeks.

Chicago should be all over doan if he touches July 1

He's the perfect type of player they need to balance their skill
and even compliment toews well when they played together in international competition

a line of doan - toews - kane would be mighty sexy

Doan Will Test Free Agency

"We feel confident we can re-sign him. It's just a matter of getting a little more clarity, hopefully when Greg Jamison's group may be able to take over the team.

"Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it'll happen by July 1, so now you run the risk of going to July 1 and some of my good friends in the general managers seats saying 'Let me just see if I can make it more expensive for the Coyotes' or make a legitimate offer."
Not only is it good veteran addition to the FA market, but things don't look too good for the franchise if Doan is considering leaving.

Hope Sather doesn't bother. Not what we need, IMO. Great veteran player, but unless he was willing to sign a sweetheart, 1-2 year deal just to try and contend with a team that went deep this past season, I don't think he solves the Rangers problems.
