I'm suprised how well Pulkkinen speaks English. It's not perfect but suprisingly good for a Finnish hockey kid.

I'm thinking B.Smith might be one of the future leaders for the Wings. He seems like a really good kid and always described as a leader at the prospect camps. Also him coming to this camp, even though he's been there for ~5 years, shows that Holland and co. see him as a role model for the others.
A little something on Mlive about Brendan Smith...
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index....dan_smith.html

Maybe it's just me but I always love to read an article that has a guy talking about how he gets excited to put on a Red Wings jersey.

Mike Babcock's kid normally goes to the development camp, atleast he has been there for the previous 3 years. He just likes his son to be apart of the experience and it doesn't hurt to get that type of training in.

I think the first scrimmage is tomorrow at 7pm. It's really a shame that they can't stream it. I'm sure a lot of people would like to watch it.

Can somone help me out here? This link http://www.theleftwinglock.com/2012/...ls-on-the-ice/ mentions that St. John didnt win the championship this year (and Jurco acknowledges it)

I don't follow the minor leagues very closely, but I was under the impression that St. John utterly dominated everyone on their way to winning the championship, and it looks like this link says they did http://chlcluster.leaguestat.com/dow...012-05-15.html

Whats going on??

They won the QMJHL but didn't win the Memorial Cup. That's what their talking about, since the Sea Dogs won it in 2011 but weren't able to do it again last season.

I know a lot of people know what is happening, but thought it was worth posting the article about this, does make me very happy the Wings organization is doing this.

For anyone interested in following the scrimmage on Twitter, at least the following people seem to be at the rink and tweeting:

https://twitter.com/NickBarnowski
https://twitter.com/BrendanSavage
https://twitter.com/georgemalik

Callahan scored the first goal to give team Z the 1-0 lead. Assists by Pulkkinen and Glendening.

Tied 1-1 after the 1st

Brendan Savage ‏@BrendanSavage

Fast-paced scrimmage at #redwingsprospectscamp. 1-1 after 1. Andreas Athanasiou scores short side with 48.1 left in first. Guys are big!

It was great to see guys like Athanasiou score a bunch but that was also tempered by the fact McCollum probably got the most amount of ice time among goaltenders, Mrazek was battling a minor injury and Paterson was drafted a couple weeks ago. So with that being said I don't put a ton of weight into the scoring stats. However it was good to read a bit on player development so I'm looking forward to seeing how the following guys do this upcoming season:
  • Riley Sheahan
  • Ryan Sproul
  • Nick Jensen
  • Petr Mrazek
  • Tomas Jurco
  • Mike McKee - when does he decide if he's going to WMU this year?
  • Andreas Athanasiou - keeping the line of dominant Andreases in Detroit intact
  • Jake Paterson
  • James DeHaas
  • Teemu Pulkkinen
  • Adam Almqvist

That list is sticking just to guys who were at the camp, ie no Calle Jarnkrok. I'll follow the Ben Marshall's and the Mitchell Calalhan's and the Landon Ferraro's of the prospect world but those guys above are the guys I've either liked since they were drafted or I like what I've heard about them and am interested in following how they develop.

Occasionally incredibly physical, occasionally slick and polished in front of the net and along the half boards, mostly a little confused this week that he couldn’t simply and naturally run everyone over the way he did in the Swedish second division (which is a step up from the league Johan Franzen first played, where players do indeed need to work day jobs). Raw player, tons of raw potential, but he needs to be tamed a bit and needs to find out whether he can compete with HV71 Jonkoping’s under-20 players, never mind pros.

He’s got enormous potential and an enormous amount of work to put in to put himself together.

From Malik.

It's somethin'.

I'd love it if this guy could develop into a monster bottom six faceoff specialist like Paul Gaustad.

For sure. Right now it looks like a long shot, but we'll see in a couple of years. Hopefully his development goes great.
