In the KHL they're playing with 4 defensive pairs. Just saying.

The only actual comparables I can think of are Blake Wheeler and Kiel McLeod. Both of them ended up using an age-related loophole to become free agents, rather than re-enter the draft or sign with the team that selected them.
I thought that RJ Umberger had done something similar to Vancouver as well.

With Nash's big contract leaving most likely, it would be hillarious if we threw a "monster deal" out there, like a ton more than any other team and landed this dude. I really have no clue how good he is--for a prospect he sure is being talked about like he is Parise or Ryan.

He is still considered a prospect no? I kidd....

I dig it.

it was said best on page 1...if we didn't offer, there would be a huge eruption from the "vocal minority (now majority since so many posters have left here?)" blasting mgmt for NOT offering....

BTW now you hold the record for the most ridiculous misspelling of a player's name. Obviously Cody has some Russian background and in Russian his last name means "pigeon".

I'm not going to lie..this whole process just annoys the hell out of me. The idea of a college kid having someone screening his calls and handling offers, with only a small number actually being given the honor of a face-to-face meeting, seems very diva-ish to me. It sounds like the rock star sitting backstage, waiting for the girls to be given the chance to move on to the next step of what the groupie process entails.

I've heard Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton are "certain" from different sources. So, I don't think anyone knows.

The way he and his team have handled this is obnoxious. Lebron-esque for a guy with zero NHL experience. Let's see him go to Toronto and deal with their expectations. Watch it end like Gustavson.

Weird; most kids with their choice of teams want to go somewhere that might actually win something in his lifetime.

(Yeah, I said it)

Not just NHL experience...the only time he's put on the jersey of a pro team at all is when he was drafted.*

*This assumes he was physically at the draft when he was picked, which I don't know for sure and frankly don't care to know

Wrong. He participated in the Ducks development camp.

First picture is a practice jersey, second is in draft regalia (official hat, and jersey looks to begin with the number 0, which would be for 08).

So, looks like he was there for the draft.

As mentioned the 3 teams are....

Canucks-He's from B.C. and would sign with a contender. Assuming that with the hype, he steps into the lineup in the NHL and not the AHL.

Oilers-Close to home and would fit in the youth movement. He's what the Oilers need and could get a nice offer from them.

Leafs-Friends with Jake Gardiner???

People say he would fit in the the best with Edmonton. I hope he goes to Edmonton.

One more thing, I don't get this. Is he officially no longer Ducks property or is he Ducks property until July 1st? He can't sign until the 1st so wouldn't it be tampering to talk to him? Did Ducks give teams permission?

Unless he plans to suck. Then ok.

Then they'd become absolutely intolerable. The trade boards would be nothing but "Our C-level defensive prospect for Johansen, because now we have Schultz."

I've been trying to help defend Gagner more often when it comes up. I think his eight point night has convinced a notable portion of the Vocal Minority there that they may not need Johansen after all.
