We have too many top 9 wingers, Lupul/Kessel/Kulie/JVR/Kadri/Fratting/MacA

Around goaltending he talks about trading for a goalie and no mention of a UFA. And from reading the rest of the article he says the UFA crop is thin. There is no UFA goalie that is upgrade over Reimer. My take.

What about signing Arnott and playing him as a number 1 centre? Would all the qualities that make him a good 3rd centre (Sound defensive play, checking etc.) not create more space and time for Lupul and Kessel ?

I am also not too familiar with Mueller's game, would he potentially be more appealing then Bozak on the kessel-lupul line?

Just can't see that happening for multiple reasons and having enough wingers now among them.

Interesting name no one's mentioning to add some physicality with Schenn gone..Cory Sarich:

http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/...layer.cgi?1732

Could see him being a top 4 still even strength.

Kulemin-Gaustad-Frattin
Prust-Steckel-Brown/Tootoo

On the top six we'll have something on lines of:

Lupul-Connolly-Kessel
JVR-Grabovsky-Doan/MacA/Dubinsky (I hope that we trade for him )

That wouldn't be so bad. Actually pretty nice, IMO. Doan is a pipedream, but he would fit like a nose to the head.
Tootoo will be getting too much in FA to be in our bottom 6. We'll have better use for that cap space.

if the leafs are/need to get bigger then guys like Mac, Bozak, and maybe even Kadri have to go. Maybe that's how the #1 C is addressed. Or maybe Kadri can somehow play #1 but that would be an *** miracle or JVR and then Kadri takes 2nd line LW. either way Connolly, Mac, Lombardi, Armstrong, all need to go for sure

I'd take a flyer on Latendresse and sign Moss
both would add much needed size and great two way games
can play anywhere from 4th to 2nd line

Not sure if Colborne is ready to step right in but his size would be nice down the middle. If not maybe hold on to Bozak until he's ready

Lupul/?/Kessel
JVR/Grabo/Kulemin
Latendresse/Colborne/Moss
Komarov/Steckel/Frattin

I don't get all the 4th liner talk. Tootoo/Prust etc., Our 4th line is pretty sick if Armstrong is healthy (yes I know he's a whipping boy)...

What we need is a 1st line centre (duh, not available), a better goalie (Luongo), and the removal of Komisarek from the books (ASAP) to help facilitate those moves...

Current projected lineup *Kulemin/Frattin/Franson/Scrivens RFA's

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
JvR-Grabovski-MacArthur
Kulemin-Connolly-Kadri/Frattin (All depends on Kadri's 2-way development)
Armstrong-Steckel-Brown

OUT: Kadri/Frattin, Lombardi, Colborne

The obvious weakness here is 1st Line C. Unfortunately unless JvR gives Centre a successful try, I don't see this being fixed. If Parise signed (highly doubtful) he could give it a crack too. The team's biggest need remains a 1st line C.

Phaneuf-Gunner
Liles-Gardiner
Franson-Komi

OUT: Holzer

The obvious weakness here is Komi. We all know that. And 4.5 of cap eaten up is disgusting. Get him outta here ASAP. If unable to fill that hole with Schultz or another UFA, Holzer is ready to step in for far cheaper.

Reimer
Scrivens

We all know the deal here. Get Luongo and you get in the Playoffs. At that point we'll see what happens...

So with all that said, I don't see much in the way of UFA's for the Leafs. Perhaps a D-man and get rid of Komi. I'm patiently waiting for the Luongo domino to drop. Florida doesn't want to pay him. Vancouver doesn't want to trade him to Chicago. The Leafs are the perfect fit.

Not this years FA class but looks like Crosby is off the market in years future with his massive 12 year 104m deal.

.
Don't want to nit-pick, but both Liles and Gardiner play the left side. Not to mention they both lack the physical element of the game (we'll see how Gardiner develops in that aspect). Again, I'm nitpicking, but Dion plays on the right and Gunnar plays on the left. If there aren't any other dmen added via trade/ufa then I could see this as the opening day blueline:

Gunnar - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Franson
Liles - Komi/Holzer

7th - Holzer/Komi

You need two guys with complementing styles. Both Liles and Gardiner love to rush the puck into the offensive zone to set up the play. It would be more logical to have both on separate pairings to make full use of their talent. I also don't think we'll see a set 2 and 3 pairings. Depending on the situation, and whoever is playing better, pairing 3 could see more icetime on any given night.

Would love to add Shultz as a UFA, but nothing over 2 mil. He's being hyped up far beyond recognition and if this continues, it's likely he won't live up to the payday he'll get. He hasn't played a game in the NHL yet.

Yes I can not see it as well but Burkes job is on the line and we have the cap space now and for the next 2 years. No matter how much the reports that he is lazy and rude he is still a hell of a player albiet injury prone but still very skilled .
