With what capspace? We can't pretend the cap will be 70 million we are already at 58,218,749 with Sven on the team.

Feaster talks about Wideman and Comeau signing. Also said Flames are only making small signings on July 1st.

Never trust what a GM says in front of a camera, ie: Brian Burke, things can change fast.
I'd wait until July 1st has come and gone before we can say 'only small signings'.

If the cap will eventually be around 65 million, we still have 6 to 7 million to play with. That could sign two extra depth guys.

Cap is 70.2 according to Elliot Friedman.

Only if it stays at the current revenue sharing formula.

From what I hear, that number could be reduced. Or at least it's a bargaining chip.

I remember when I made a comment about Cap space on a Bouwmeester thread a month or so ago (In that his hit is high, and his play in Calgary was replaceable); and a bunch of the Flames Fanboys on HF jumped on me telling me how Cap space meant nothing, there was no difference between 1 or 10 million... etc.

Not even a month later, we're talking about how we can wisely use this money to get the rest of the team together.

SJ fans are saying Douglas Murray might be available. Could you imagine.

The guy I want is Doan. He fills that 2nd line RW spot nicely, is physical, and will help in the dressing room.

Feaster was on the fan today saying that their wishlist (in a perfect world) is: Another top 6 center.(Didn't mention anything about Jokinen) He said if they could not acomplish this then Cammy would stay at center. And a hard to play against, gritty bottom 6 player. (Not a fighter)

Bouwmeester's not replaceable without trading away assets that the Flames can't afford to trade. That aside, I don't think anyone would say that cap space means nothing (unless they're completely retarded); I do recall a number of posters overestimating how far the Flames' cap space would go, though. I certainly wouldn't hire the average HFBoards poster to be my financial planner.

Does the signing of wideman maybe hurt us in the Shultz chase? The flames are going for him and he may just go with whoever offers the best contract. He's the guy I realistically wanted the flames to get (we aren't getting suter or parise) I like the wideman signing though. Adding him and Sven to our lineup without giving anything up only makes us better then we were last year

I don't think so. By the sound's of things Justin had no intention of playing here in the 1st place.

Feaster stated that he had reached out to the agent(s) of Shultz, but had yet to hear back from them, and was still waiting. That pretty much sum's up the possibility of him becoming a Flame.

See, that would be a rational argument. Except when you're dealing with mega fans, if they can't articulate their point they jump to stupidity to prove something that doesn't quite work rofl.

Wideman eats up minutes too now, so, I think as a team if the return for Bouw is another top 4 that is 100 defensive, should be fine.

If we trade with St. Louis as rumored, I would like to see Roman Polak coming this way! I don't know if the Blues are willing to part with him though.

I like Murray, but I don't know if I want to give up a lot of assets to get him. I would much rather go for a guy like...

I wouldn't be opposed to this. At least, not on a short-term deal. I still think I'd prefer Latendresse or Mueller though.

I would pass not that Doan isn't good but I would rather find a longer term option like Latendresse, Mueller, or Hudler.

Didn't Carkner just turn down a one year deal from the Sens? Could that mean...?

Schultz isn't coming here.

After meeting with his Newport representatives in Toronto, unrestricted free agent Justin Schultz is ready to talk to a shortlist of NHL teams bidding for his services.

And the young defenceman has narrowed down his list of suitors to the Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers.

That fact that he can bail out on the team that drafted him and choose where he goes before he even steps on to an NHL rink is absurd.

Worse. We got Horak and multiple second round picks. It's not entirely unreasonable to say that the Flames may end up being the winners of that trade 5 years from now. Anaheim gets absolutely nothing for Schultz.

Does anyone know much about a guy like Milan Jurcina? The guy had 173 hits, and 116 blocked shots last year, but he was -34 with the Islanders...

Is he a defensive liability? Or was he just a victim of circumstance?
