Inb4 overpaid. 5.25 sounds about right for Wideman, I would have been reluctant to give him more than 5 but its definitely not a huge overpayment either way. Before people start to bash this signing please realise its a 70m cap world now, you cannot expect guys like Wideman to sign for 4m.

5 million is way too high for how Wideman played last year.

Considering the market, and the possibly rising cap, this is a fair contract. People are kidding themselves if they think he'd sign for less than 5.

Pains me to say it but the Calgary Flames are headed the way of the post lockout Leafs. They did everything to just make the playoffs and what ended up being was a team with zero prospects, old veterans about to retire and bad contracts like Blake.
We would have been in a much better situation if Burke didn't have to mop up everything that the Leafs did from 2004-08.
I am a Leaf fan but I always liked Iggy and the Flames...and I don't blame them for trying to get back into that race by trying to get players like Brad Richards etc but Wideman is not the answer to anything unless the question is "Was the Wideman signing stupid?"

Liles took a discount. He could easily gotten 5 M if he stayed healthy, and hit the UFA market.
