This team's lacking in the FO area is big concern. It's a big part of the game and it hurt us alot in post season. Either get Guastaud and move Boyle down, or get Konopka for the 4th line and leave Boyle @3c.

Youre going to give Gaustad $3M+ on a multi-year deal to win faceoffs?

It comes down to if Yotes can get that new ownership agreement. One thing is for sure, it won't be decided July 1st.

If we get the chance to acquire Doan it will probably be later in the summer.

honestly i'm not crazy about the idea. it's an option, but not my first choice. It all depends what kind of moves this org. is intending come Sunday. For $3m per, i'd rather have a guy who could do more than just faceoffs, like Guastad.

This is why i said Konopka for the 4th line, while keeping Boyle at 3C.
Konopka is as one dimensional as you can get, but he'll be cheap and on the 4th line. Plus he can fight.

My shopping list is Konopka for a faceoff guy, Doan/Whitney/Knuble/Boyes to fill out the top 6 and a vet right handed dman. That's all and we can always make moves at the deadline for a vet to add to our team.

I'm watching NHL Tonight and they are talking about how Howson is going to wait until Parise signs and Ryan is possibly traded and something dawned on me: Does anyone think Howson looks a lot like the guy that played Red Skull in Captain America?

Ironically, both of them were insane with their demands. I will forever know Scott Howson as Red Skull. I can just picture now that after Howson gets some sucker GM to give him what he wants, he'll rip his face off and reveal his true identity.

Said nothing was close on Nash and that teams are no where near what it would take to get him from Columbus.

Hahah, Hugo Weaving who also played Agent Smith in The Matrix, V in V For Vendetta, and The Elf King in The Lord Of The Rings movies....wow, that's an uncanny resemblance.

Back to hockey, bummer Moen is gone. He would've been nice.

What's up with Smyth? It's been too quiet with him. I still say dump John Mitchell and replace him with Torrie Mitchell.

Forget Torrie Mitchell, I would settle with replacing him with a blow up doll.

At least the blow up doll is useful in several different ways...

I find this humorous

Mueller, Tootoo, Carkner, Schultz.

I think Mueller makes soooo much sense in regards to his age, skill and possible upside.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything but yes, sign Mueller and make him wear the Cascade M11 Helmet. That thing DOES help.

And yes, sign a fourth liner or two like Torrie Mitchell. Boyle with Rupp and John Mithcell could be one of the worst lines in the league.

They don't have Gaborik for a few months, other injuries happen, and there's no way Hrivik/Yogan/Thomas/Miller/Jean/Wellman/random rookie is playing 5 minutes a night with those two.

Depth matters. If a rookie outplays a vet, all the better but no more Bickell on the wing. Ever.

Bryce Salvador is a name that interests me. I may be scared off by the price, though. Playoff tested, experienced playing the right side. Definitely has a shelf life though.

Nice signing to keep Marty Biron

Now on to signing 4-5 forwards and 1-2 defensemen (at least, depending on if Stralman stays and if NY brass feels Erixon is NHL ready)

My guesses are:
Top 6 stopgap fwd - one of Doan/Whitney/Smyth/Selanne (pipe dream)/Radulov (extremely long shot)
3rd line RW - one of Mueller/Boyes/Jagr
Replacement for Prust - Tootoo/Konopka/Prust?
Spare fwd: Mitchell/Wellman/Fedotenko/other internal prospect

Defensemen - one to two of Schultz (long shot), Jurcina, Carkner... And most likely Bickell

We need some wing depth and RD deph, first and foremost IMHO is some sort of offensive improvement.

Gaustad would also be huge for our faceoffs and penalty kill. We were average, if not below average this past season. Words can't describe how frustrating it was to watch us constantly lose face offs.

A must? If he insists on 2.2 mill he's as good as gone. As far as replacements go Konopka should be the first guy they speak to.

There are only a handful of UFA's you might give serious money to this off-season. It wouldn't surprise me if we made no big signings. With the limited amount of good players I expect the prices are going to be jacked up too much.

Twas the night before July 1st, when all through the league
Not a Gm was calm, they all were nervous & fatigued
Their wish lists were hung by their white boards with care,
In hopes that an allstar soon would be theirs

The fans were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of cup parades danced in their heads.
And mamma in her Avery shirt and I in my blue cap,
Had just settled our brains for a short summer nap.

When out on the web there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to through windows startup I flew like a flash,
To open the Firefox and hoped for a splash

We hoped for Parise, Suter and another good buyin
Some wished for a deal getting a Nash or a Ryan
And Schultz was the name of the new shiny toy
That left Anaheim mumbling, "they tampered with our boy"

To replace our best fighter who's named Brandon Prust
Sather went searching for a middlewight to trust
To smash some guys faces and cause chaos on the ice
His job is to enforce, be dirty not nice

Sather looked through the list chomping on a stoogie
I think we need a new tough guy, to replace that poor Boogie
And he fell asleep dreaming of resigning John Scott
When Gordie and Gorton erased the whole goon lot

We saw on Hockeybuzz the numerous E4s and E5s
That never came true, *just like cold turkey jives
And Dregger and McKenzie both blogged and they twittered
About some inside scoops that they'd been transmittered

And Bettman and Fehr prepared for their fight
Of future salaries and dividing the revenue just right
But neither really cared if the season was played
They both had good deals, regardlessly ofgetting paid

And in an an apartment in Manhattans lost glory
Our coach was a dreaming of a Stanley Cup story
A reprise of Tampa another ugly big ring
To do it on Broadway would be the real thing

Torts sprang to his stance to his dream team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, as they skated out of sight,
"Happy Signings to all, and to all a good-night!"

Smyth was supposed to meet with the Oilers yesterday. They haven't been able to get a contract done for 4 months.

you think he's a top 6 LW at this point in his career?

Alot of vets out there but not sure who's actually leaving where they are, Doan, Whitney, Jagr, Selanne

So at C we have mentioned Gaustad, Konopka

Is Langkow a 3rd line upgrade? too costly?
Hecht damanged goods?
Arnott good for the PP?
Does Burish fight or win faceoffs?
If Dom Moore wasnt a dink with some comments he would make sense

I like McClement as the guy but others will say he doesnt chip in alot offensively

really is slim pickings.
