I think they mean "test the FA market" in the sense he'll still be unsigned on July 1st. I think he's just waiting to make sure Phoenix stays in Phoenix before signing there. Just in case the new sale doesn't fall apart as all the previous ones and in case the Coyotes get moved last second (like how Atlanta were suddenly moved last summer).
But if Phoenix gets something set up long-term in the next couple of months, I don't see him going anywhere.
I wouldn't want to if I were a Flames fan. Yes he's a great player, but I feel as though the Flames have to get younger. I think Doan wants to go to a team that will contend regardless due to his age. If he were 30, I could certainly see the Flames making a pitch for him.
Personally I want to see him go back to WPG and retire there.
He wouldnt come to Calgary. He has no personal connections with our team and most likely wants to win a cup.
Hes an Alberta boy? And apparently still visits Alberta in the offseason, not to mention him being good friends with Iginla. I think Iginla and Feaster will pitch something to him, doubt he bites though. He seems to like his warm climate.
Hahaha. I said that to Roger Millions, and that it doesn't make sense for the Flames his reply was
One can assume that flames want to be a playoff hopeful next season so they would him aboard I think.Btw u guys know Eberle has a home in south Calgary and trains here in the offseason? We should trade for him :p

He is part owners with Iginla for the Kamloops Blazers, what are you talking about no connections, They are also to be reported to be great friends as they played junior together. I would say that incentive enough, Doubt he signs here though. Could very well see him going to Winnipeg.
There was a rumour the last time Doan was a free agent that he was considering signing in Calgary, until an unamed friend within the organization reminded him of the pressures of playing in a Canadian market and he resigned in Phoenix. So take that for what it's worth. I like character, and I think Doan would be a great pickup provided the term is short, even if they overpaid.

Well everybody wants to play for the Flames. It's apparent that even if we continually miss the playoffs players still sign here.
Yea I did research and turns out he is great friends with iginla. They played junior together and are both co-owners of the kamloops blazers. Also I heard on the radio that he wants out of phx because of their shaky management and may want to return home (Alberta). Put 1 and 2 together and I think doan is a real possibility. Feaster said he wanted a bottom 6 guy who is hard to play against but in doan he gets a top 6 guy who is hard to play against.
Part of me wants doan because he would fill the second line RW spot well but another part of me doesn't want him here because it would be us continuing the trend of signing old guys and would prefer a mueller or latendress. How ever with that being said Calgary love their veteran players and love their captain and if doan and iggy are such good friends, u can bet iginla will get management to make doan a pitch. I could see something like 3 years (long but he's going to want a contract that he can retire after) at 4.5 mil per.
Lines would look like:
Tanguay,cammy,iginla
Glencross,cervenka,doan
Baertchi,backlund, comeau
Aliu/bouma,jones,jackman
Butler,bouwmeester
Giordano,wideman
Brodie, sarich/?

* for the people wondering where stajan is, with the # of teams below the cap floor I believe feaster will be able to find a taker for him. IMO he would be perfect for Dallas, who is below the floor and need C depth after the Ribeiro trade.
