Oh I see. How about Sami Salo? Is he going to be on the team next year? IIRC he is a right handed shot

He's old so I'm sure he'll be 5/6/7th guy with limited ice time.

Shhhh...
We're telling Garrison that it's his spot and Schultz that it's his. Hopefully neither of them figures it out until they get to camp and they see big Shea Weber skate out with a Canuck's uniform.

And that's something to be proud of? They were considered the favorite BOTH times and lost...infact they have lost 8 of the last 10 playoff games played and almost made history by getting swept 4 straight in the first round after winning the President's trophy. Using that lame, "oh we lost to the cup champs" excuse looks kinda pathetic when you were a heavy favorite to beat them both.

Wrong side.

Garrison = LH

Garrison would be to replace Ballard, in theory.

He said he wants to come back.

Just like last season, we're probably going to try and limit his minutes.

LOL I guess half the teams that make the playoffs are in a downswing the year after! Boston is on one of the worst downswings ever! Wins the cup then is knocked out in the 1st round.

But oh wait thankfully Schultz can sign with a team on the upswing! Oilers have gone from 2 straight last place finishes in the league to a last place finish only in their conference! Thats a whole 1 spot upgrade! Next year they aim on finishing 3rd last in the league!

There's a rumour a deal has been agreed upon.

Salo isn't speedy/healthy enough to handle full time top 4 duties.

If he plays a #6/7 role next year it will be optimal.

Nobody said it was anything to be proud of. That post was in reference to the Canucks being "on the downswing", as someone put it. Try reading the whole thread before you refute an argument that was never made.

I think the point with Vancouver is that they ice a competitive team. The simple fact is that it's easier to sign free agents in this case. Whether you see them as being a top contender or not this is just the reality. I have no doubt that the Oilers will also ice a competitive team in the not too distant future and this will probably help them attract free agents.

Are we really going to get into playoff history again?

In case you haven't looked the Oilers have won back to back Presidents trophies, difference being one of those years we raised a certain trophy you may have heard of that wasn't for the best regular season record.

Yeah 'cause Schultz will sign with you because of success in the 80's

No matter how much you guys argue, it's not going to ultimately change Schultz's mind on who he wants to play for. Each team has pros and cons. Lets leave it at that

let's face hit, if he wants success it won't be with van or edmonton or toronto for at least a couple years

Is it that much of a stretch to say Sedin twins may be declining? They are still 1st liners, but they weren't even PPG this year. A steep decline from their previous 100 pt. seasons.

What are his other options?

If he wants to play in CAN:

VAN - contender but lost in first round
TOR - rebuilding with no goalie or #1C
EDM - 3 #1 picks in a row
OTT - #8 seed
WPG - mediocrity
CGY -
MTL - rebuilding

Other teams:

NYR - still not convinced they're a legitimate contender
DET - loss of Lidstrom, star players are wrong side of 30

Of course every team has selling points.
