Yeah, I guess some people are just lucky, or more talented.
My mom's Finnish-American (she has no accent) and I was born in the states, moved to Sweden when I was 2, back when I was 11... Plenty of Americans around to teach me, still sound like a goof.
It's a lot different with parents. They're not crude and aggressive towards the foreign language. If you pronounce something "funny," they'll probably think it's cute. Haula's dad coached American style football, so a lot of former US football players would room with them. It's a much more language immersive situation from what I imagine you went through.
