I'm thinking DW wants to make a splash and wants to keep as much cap space as he can until then, so 3rd liners like Winnik he is putting off.
If he does have interest in Winnik then it will probably cost him because there are a boat load of teams out there that have $$ to spend this year and it won't take long for some team to offer Winnik a Malhotra type deal.
shane doan- tons of grit and skill, would look good with jumbo but isnt the elite scorer ryan is
parise- would cost 0 assets
nash- good skater, good hands. but hes a lefty shot, and no matter how much him and jumbo are friends, i bet jumbo would prefer a righty
I agree with your list. IMO, I would like to see doan based on the fact that his "grit" is what the Sharks are lacking. Theres enough talent on the Sharks front end already. Doan would add to it, but also supply the testicles that were missing last season.
I know that Ray Whitney may be old, but I think he has 1 more year in him. I think with his age, maybe we could land him for the 3mill he got last year.
Doan is a leader, I dont think he would want to loose his C.
Wouldn't blow me away in shock if Avs get Winnik back. Unlikely but...
Would be cool if we just reversed that trade, assuming Winnik wants the 2.5m and perhaps McGinn still has his heart in San Jose. Doubt that would happen, but ya never know.
The consensus on the Avs' board is that it is highly improbable that Winnik would return to Colorado. A reputable poster said the Avalanche's and Winnik's camps were far apart in contract "talks" earlier this season, hence why he was traded. The same thing happened in PHX, apparently- he has supposedly been a tough one to negotiate with. I really hopes he stays with you all in SJ.
