Ha, forgot I even commented on this. I have always loved SLC and Utah generally. SLC is lovely and clean -- at least every time I've been there. The nearby skiing is among the best in this hemisphere.

The southern part of Utah boasts some of the most spectacular natural places on Earth: Zion, Bryce, etc.

Plus the tourist museum in the bottom of the Mormon temple (you can't actually go in the temple of course) is a world of hilarity worthy of SouthPark. Whatever you believe, religiously speaking, the dioramas are hysterical.

Call it the local bias, but I'd put Portland ahead of Salt Lake where a new team is concerned. I feel like they've shown a fair amount of resolve where the Blazers are concerned, and the way the city has gone all out embracing the Timbers leads me to believe there's even more room for professional sport expansion. That, and the number of die-hards out for the Winter Hawks, even when they weren't that hot, was fairly impressive for the region.

That, and the fact that the Garden and Coliseum are right next to each other, and the scheduling for Winter Hawks games would be nearly painless. Plus they're already well versed in the ice transition.

Doesn't Seattle have a wildly popular minor league team too?

In Portland the team wouldn't be competing with the NFL or MLB. In addition, Portland already has a 20,000 seat hockey-capable arena (Rose Garden) whereas Seattle IINM would have to build one.

Wonder if McPhee could pull this off

Parise for 15 years/100 million

Doan for 5 years 22.5 million

Ryan, Beauchemin for Laich, Forsberg, Neuvirth, 1st+ (overpayment but who gives a **** )

Schultz, Erskine waived/traded

Ovechkin Ribeiro Doan
Parise Backstrom Ryan
Chimera Johansson Brouwer
Hendricks Beagle Ward

Alzner Carlson
Beauchemin Green
Hamrlik Orlov

Holtby
Clemmensen

Cap hell, farm gets purged, but if this doesn't win the cup this year might as well find another sport.

The NHL is far enough from the mainstream for all the Portland hipsters to ironically get on board for a couple seasons too.

It would be a mistake not to sign him IMO, now that he's out of Hunter's system, and injury free at the moment, I think he'd be worth his QO. Orlov isn't ready yet to step into Green's role.

On paper that looks like a helluva team. Not likely but I'd love it.

Regarding Doan, as said previously, there really is no chance he comes East. If he does, it would have to be a gross overpayment. I'd say he is about a 4.5 million per year player. To get him out East, I think it woudl take 6/year.

We all know that GMGM hates frontloaded deals, but he may have to be competitive with Parise.
Parise will turn 40 in July 2024. So let's sign a 12-year deal.
Code:
YO Season Salary
28 12-13 9,5
29 13-14 9,5
30 14-15 9,5
31 15-16 9,5
32 16-17 9,5
33 17-18 9,5
34 18-19 9,5
35 19-20 9,5
36 20-21 1
37 21-22 1
38 22-23 1
39 23-24 1
80M for 12 yrs = 6,666 cap hit. Pretty cap-friendly.

Yeah, but the fact is that Parise's cap hit then will be lower than Semin's in 11-12 season.

Pretty sure you can't have that dramatic of a drop from 9.5 million to 1 million.

You can. I checked "Kovalchuk rule" before posting. You can't have <1M salary.

Sign one of Tootoo, Prust or Armstrong. Army will bounce back.

Even with the cap, what, 30% higher now, superior defensemen still sign for less money than Jeff f'ing Schultz. Niskanen for $2.3.

It is important that the Caps keep up with the Jones', so to speak! If Pitt signs Parise, they will be a true force. We have to counter with something just as big to compete in the east. Why are we content with signing scrubs and waiting for talent to mature when we could be going for it? We need to be bold. I love the proposal by Halpysback. That shows true balls which McFlee doesn't have sadly.

Yeah because all that lineup would take to happen is balls. It would have nothing to do with those players actually accepting the caps offer or teams accepting the trade offers.

The trade for Ryan though would take balls.

Yeah and I guess anaheim would certainly consider it. I don't know if I would deal all those assets for really a one dimensional scorer. You're right it would take balls though.

I was really high on Fedotenko after the Rangers series, but after reading this and the comments below it, I'm not as excited. Just about all the Rangers fans think he's lost a lot of his speed and can be easily replaced.
