No. Schultz has a year after this; it'd be next July 1 that they could sign something assuming that rule doesn't change. You can stop trembling in fear for another year.

Ah. For some reason I thought his contract was up at the end of this season. Wishful thinking I guess.

I am thinking 6 years 27M should do it.

Don't worry, it will be front loaded.

Well this problem has just been solved. It's good to see that McPhee can analyze the roster for gaps and address them quickly!

Schultz now has his wingman in Wolski.

You think Schultz might be a scientologist as well?

Is Heatley's NMC still in force? I thought I had read somewhere once that if you waive a NMC/NTC at any point, it becomes invalidated.

What would Heatley or Seto cost? Can't imagine it would be much. I'm not the biggest Heatley fan, but it would be nice to have a real point shot on the PP for a change.

God No on Heatley. I would think Setoguchi could be had for maybe MP or Mojo and a prospect (maybe a D like Wey) or pick.

The caps should become affiliated with the Edinburgh Capitals of the EIHL just to make this happen.

Are you trying to say that his development stalled because he never got his mono treated properly and didn't completely recover?

Just passing by, but is Holtby definitely starting for the Capitals? Or will Neuvrith have a chance?

Any idea what the lines will look like this year for you guys? I am excited to see how the team performs with a new, more offensive-minded coach. I truly hope Ovechkin returns to his form from a couple of years ago. There is no more exciting player to watch than Ovi when he's on his game. I was thinking the lines would look like the following...how off am I? Has Johansson been converted full-time to the RW? Also, any chance Forsberg cracks the lineup this season?

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Brouwer
Wolski - Ribeiro - Johansson
Chimera - Laich - Ward
Hendricks - Perrault - Crabb
X: Beagle

Carlson - Alzner
Green - Hamrlik
Orlov - Schultz
X: Hillen, Erskine

Holtby
Neuvirth

Wrong thread. Try the roster building one.

But to answer your questions:
McPhee has stated that he likes the chemistry between Backstrom and Johansson, so its likely Johansson will see significant time on his wing this season (especially given the addition of Ribeiro). McPhee also stated that he will get time at center as well (perhaps it might take injuries for that to happen).
McPhee also mentioned the possibility of Laich returning to the wing. He likes the flexibility that having Johansson, Laich, and Perreault gives him in terms of who centers what line and who plays wing. Expect one of Perreault or Laich to end up as a 2nd line winger.
The agents for both Wolski and Perreault claim the Caps mentioned top 6 roles for them. We'll see how true that is.
Forsberg will return to Sweden to finish his contract this season. He will contend for the roster next year.

My guess for game one (assuming there's no more roster moves):
Johansson - Backstrom - Ovechkin
Laich - Ribeiro - Wolski
Chimera - Perreault - Brouwer
Hendricks - Beagle - Ward
Crabb

Alzner - Carlson
Hamrlik - Green
Schultz - Orlov
Hillen, Erskine

Holtby
Neuvirth

I have a hunch they are going to play Ribeiro with Ovechkin.

reminder. there is a significant difference between a top 6 role and being a top 6 forward.
if the caps signed brian willsie, he would have a top 6 role even though he might never dress for a game.

Beagle is almost certainly an everyday guy. Forsberg is going back to Leksands this year, so the only way he sees an NHL game is if he comes over after his season is done (and even then I'd call it a stretch).

Hard to say what lines will look like, because hard to say whether Oates will want to stick with his lefty/left and righty/right philosophy that he's espoused in the past.

Figure Ovi, Backstrom, Ribeiro are top-6 locks. Brouwer probably is as well. Laich could be 2W or 3C, as could Johansson. Perreault might have a shot at 2W since it sounds like they want him to get a top-6 chance.

Wolski is a top-6er or else he's on waivers.

If Wolski, Johansson, Perreault all play well enough it wouldn't shock me to see all 3 used as top-6 wingers, with Brouwer at 3RW and Ward at 4RW. But anything is possible until you figure out how well guys are going to play in camp and such.

I would agree with BRS Ovi, Backstrom, and Ribeiro are the only top 6 locks. i see the other wing spots being an open competion throughout the season. I think alot of players will get a chance at those spots untill GMGM fills them via trade.

its just a guess, but ovechkin plays left wing so he can shoot ala stamkos.
beagle will skate mostly 3c. laich mostly 2LW. johansson mostly 1RW. i think we see brouwer more on the top 2 lines than wolski or perreault. i think wolski and perreault battle to stay off the scratch sheet.

I think Brouwer is a lock for a top 6 spot. Ideally, he's probably a third line winger, but we don't have that kind of depth. Also, I think he's pretty damn good as an offensive winger. Looking at last year's forward scoring stats (which is painful) Brouwer was fourth on the team with 15 ESG. Which is pretty decent and places him among wingers like Callahan, Umberger and LaRose.

On a related note, our PP needs to get back to 20+%. Badly.
