I would normally be excited about this and still am happy but the whole pick fiasco hinders my excitement a bit.

1st thought: Cool beans
2nd thought: Guess we're waiting as long as possible to forfeit that pick

Why wouldn't we give up pick #30 just because we're hosting

Guess it's the '14 pick we'll be losing.

"Why don't we get a draft?"

We have no nearby hotels. Hotels get built. We're getting the draft!

You know what else this means guys? ASG not far behind.

Even though the decision was likely made before it (and just not announced until today), I assume the successful hosting of a few Stanley Cup Finals games didn't hurt either. Likely events such as the NBA Draft, big name concerts, and the NCAA Regionals played the biggest role though.

Awesome. Glad to see we're finally getting the chance to host one. And yes, it looks like we won't have a pick in 2014 now.

Yeah, those events surely didn't hurt but the hotels really play a HUGE part in it to be honest.

Wasn't there a Hilton or a Marriott supposed to be built right next to the Rock?

Marriott of some flavor - and the exterior is virtually complete. I assume it'll be ready to roll long before the draft.

IIRC there's a second hotel in downtown Newark being built as well. The first two new hotels in some 50 years or something.

Nice, where exactly is it? For some reason I thought it would be right next/connected to the parking garage.

Corner of Broad and Mulberry, behind the VIP parking deck.

EDIT: Derp. Broad and Lafayette.

In the '80s they hosted an ASG.

It's on the corner of Broad St. and Lafayette. There was a small parking lot there, I believe a skywalk type thing will connect the lot and the hotel, but I don't think they're really physically attached. It's been some time since I walked over there. There potentially could be underground parking at the hotel itself too...

Three consecutive years that an Atlantic Division will host the draft.

East Coast bias.
