you guys are insane if you think he was getting $2m from anyone. I was expecting $1.5m but the location was probably worth it for him to just get it over with. good for him--hope it works out.
East will be easier on his body anyway.

I was expecting 2 years from a team like Dallas or Calgary. He's a 25 year old goal scorer. Someone would have taken that risk. He definitely passed better opportunities up to go to Ottawa. That or he's so confident in his ability to perform that he wants to hit UFA next season more than have a safety blanket.

Again, that's why you don't throw away a player's rights. You don't believe what the player or agent has to say regarding his future. Especially if that allows them to pick where they play in an open market...

I'll defer to you guys as my knowledge of the inner-workings of hockey contracts and negotiations is limited, but I don't believe we could have gotten anything worthwhile for his rights anyway.

i've been thinking this all along. Think Gui is feeling great and knows it, and is ready to rock while he knows that no one else has any reason to trust him.

I feel that Fletch made the right move. Who knows, Lats and Fletch maybe talked and Lats stressed heavily he wanted to go back to the Montreal area to be with his family. Fletch probably didn't want another Zids situation on hand and decided it was best for the organization and the team to move on now, instead of later.

Capgeek lists him as a RFA next year. I remember asking on here that if we qualified him, would that be the case? Someone replied he's been in the league long enough that he wouldn't be an RFA. Did Capgeek make a mistake?

It's a CapGeek error, expect a few of those. After this year he'll have 7 years served so he'll be UFA.

He clearly wasn't worth the qualifying offer according to the rest of the league as well, and this confirms it. I wish him luck, but that price also shows he simply wanted out.

Be gone then, I'd rather have players that want to be here.

This ain't looking great for the team. Wonder what Fletch was offering for the Wild here.

Could've just qualified him, but yeah he'll be great for Ottawa, power forward, top line to go with Spezza and Michalek, now that will be an awesome top line.

This signing makes me angry. I feel like one side or the other lied to the fans. That's probably not the case, but it feels that way.

It's one possibility. Yeah, we could have qualified him. But what happened if he truly didn't want to be here? Yes, we could have also traded him. But he's not worth much right now considering the past two years.

Wow, can't believe some Sens fans think Gui is not a top 6 Player.

They probably still think he's the Habs Gui.

he might be. like i said, he might be a Penner in that he works for one team, doesn't work for others. he could end up Habs Gui.

I didn't read their thoughts on Gui, either: is it possible they just want to count on him being at least a 3rd liner and go from there? Or maybe they're just excited about the possibility of rolling three scoring lines

Well, there's a reason why the Sens traded Foligno.

To make space for Gui.

Actually, I believe some just can't accept he's going to be in their top 6 unless they sign Semin which is unlikely.

Eh... that's the Sens' Fans problem.

Honestly I just want these Lats threads to die and start drifting down to page two already.
