Hey, Briere and Drury were both centers and they played on the same line. I could see him sliding into the spot Boyes' is vacating and being effective, possibly giving us some depth and flexibility.

Although I don't see Gagner in Edmonton's long term plans, I doubt he gets traded as of now without another center coming back.We simply do not have anyone to replace him from within the organization at this time.

As for needs:

- Top four defenseman or two.
- Size in the top six forward set, preferably at center.
- Back up goalie.

Yea, we need size/grit too. I don't suppose Mr. Eager would be available, eh??

If it's like a 3rd round pick, I'd probably do this. Although, I might try and do one better:

:Sabres
Leopold
Adam
3rd round

:Oilers
Gagner
Eager

Donno if Edmonton would do it though.

Why on earth would Buffalo trade anything for him? Roy, Ennis, Hodgson, Grigorenko, and Girgensons aren't enough?

Edmonton laughs because they think Regier is joking, then fall all over themselves accepting it. Buffalo doesn't need Eager, nor do they need to give up Adam to get him.

Probably not. Honestly Gagner's value is too low for us to trade him right now. Playing with legitimate top 6 linemates and remaining healthy he should have 60-70 points next year and then he might be more available. We need to know if Hall can be an effective center in the NHL before dealing him regardless because after him our next best center is Shawn Horcoff so we can't really afford to deal him at this moment.

Girgensons is still a couple years away. I'm picturing him on a line w/ Leino & either Hodgson or Grigs. Plus (with Ennis being the exception), I feel like it's easier to turn a center w/ Gagner's skills into a wing than the other way around. Like I said, Briere and Drury were both centers and they played on the same line. Why couldn't Gagner and Hodgson/Grigs??

That wasn't really how I was cognitively processing it. I was thinking Adam + 3rd for Gagner, then Leopold for Eager. And why WOULDN'T Buffalo want Eager?? The guy is a bona fide Tyrannosaurus, the second Lucic took one step toward Millsy, it's Jeff Goldblum chaos theory lecture time. How would you edit the proposal though??

He does, but I think the combo of him getting hurt/disappearing into the minors last year, along with the Grigorenko selection has made him popular trade fodder, which kinda sucks because I dig his game, but he's also a valuable piece for an upgrade somewhere. He's been comin up in just about every proposal discussion for us I feel like, I've seen him anywhere from Ryan to Ott to Berglund to Clutterbuck.

It's basically top 6 or bust for Adam right now. He doesn't have good defensive awareness and doesn't muck it up enough for the bottom 6. His game is probably more suited for a winger, but for a big guy he's pretty skilled with the puck. I doubt he will usurp Hodgson or Ennis for a 1/2 spot, and there's no way he's going to out-do Girgensons when he's ready for a center spot, so it's pretty much wing duty or a trade for Adam.

I concur. I thought he had some real chemistry with Vanek at the start of the year, just feeding him pucks and jumping on rebounds. You gotta think though that by the end of next season, that spot is either Hodgson's or Grig's.

Same line? What? Briere and Hecht, and Roy and Drury played on the same lines. Not B&D.

All of the centers.

Except Gagner. We don't need another generic, unremarkable (not saying he's terrible) top six-er under 210 lb.

I want no part of Gagner. Neither do many Oiler fans, hence the inclusion of him in any offer ever.

There are a few Oil fans who come on the trade boards to include him in proposals which make no sense to Oil fans.

A minority does not represent a majority.

I don't really see the fit for Buffalo unless they trade Roy, as he'd then be a decent option to bolster Hodgson and Ennis as a top 9 center, assuming Grigorenko isn't going to make the team or needs insurance. Down the line there's probably no room for Gagner in the top 9 -- much less the top 6 -- even at wing.

By 2013-2014 we're likely looking at Hodgson and Grigorenko as the top 6 centers, Ennis as a top 9 center or winger, Girgensons probably as the 3rd line center or winger and then wingers including: Vanek, Pominville, Stafford, Armia, Leino, Foligno, Ennis (if not at center), Gerbe, Kaleta, etc. There's really no fit for a guy who to my knowledge is really top 6 or bust.

Still, he probably wouldn't command much and that makes him intriguing. Edmonton is better pawning him off on a team that is a lot more desperate for a young top 6 talent.

I doubt very much Buffalo would trade for a centre, what with their over-abundance of centres right now.

We could definitely still use a physical, defensive bottom 6 center for next season.
