Hmm... I don't know much about Bourdon but having another McGinn would be nice. I can see Clowe doing very well in Philly, he fits the physical system and his lack of speed wouldn't hurt the Flyers as much as it hurt the Sharks this year. I'd probably do it.
Value may be there but none of the pieces will help the Sharks next year. If I had to rank Bourdon with our d-men, he'd be 8th and I don't ever see him getting better than 3rd pairing d-man. McGinn will never get past 3rd line level if he makes it. The 1st may be compelling and Doherty from our side is nothing special as it is. The biggest problem is that this trade doesn't make the Sharks better next year. It merely opens up a spot to make another trade to address it. That could definitely happen but even if you do this type of trade first, they need better potential/ceiling than this.
This is an interesting trade, and I love Clowe's game. But do we really need to be adding veteran ($) forwards at the expense of a first rounder right now? We have enough young talent at forward and they're going to have to get paid soon enough.
We need true wingers in our top 6. If we trade Clowe, we better get a top6 caliber winger in return. I don't see a possible top 6 winger in your package.
That's unlikely. We are not going to trade a top-6 caliber winger for a top-6 caliber winger, that would be extremely rare (except in the case of elite players for prospects).
It really depends on what we do in free agency. If for instance we got Suter, it would make more sense to trade Boyle for a top-6 winger, then trade Clowe for picks/prospects. If we got Doan and/or Nash, same thing. So there is no harm in discussing it.
That said, I'd really prefer forward prospects in general.
Too much. Must be Boyle+ for Read+ or similar value. Boyle highly upgrades an already upgraded d-core--for 1 or 2 seasons, but he alters cap play for '13. Voracek, Read, and Simmonds are all young productive roster players with potential; no two may leave without years of production coming back.
Ok - fair enough. Would you do a package around Read and Simmonds for Boyle or is that too much?
Read+3-5rounder to Clowe is fair. Read is very cheap over 20 goal scorer. Trade will give you more cap space and good player, to us it give physicality and experience and 20 goals. To this we can put Mezza and upgrade 3-5 rounder to 1 and 2 round pick if you but Boyle+Murray. If that isnt enough you can maybe get f or d prospect.
So we get very good defend to Philly upcoming season.
That's not at all tempting. The first deal didn't interest me because the most valuable piece was a late first. Bourdon will never be better than Braun or Demers, so he's useless, Tye McGinn is not a good prospect at all, and I don't want Zolnoierczyk anywhere near this team, especially at the cost of Demers.
If Clowe goes to Philly, minimum Simmonds has to come back. Otherwise, there are a lot of teams that could beat that offer easily.
Precisely how much do you think Clowe is worth? Simmonds had 28 goals this year and is younger, a better skater, an rfa. If you got simmonds for clowe straight up you'd be doing well.
Simmonds had 28 goals in a very open, offensive system in Philly. He's struggle to get 20 in a more defensive system like SJ. Clowe's coming off a year where he struggled with injuries and where he never really had a consistent RW. He's much more valuable than what last year's numbers would indicate.
