Cause I'd rather have a shortened season with playoffs then a season played rendered meaningless with no playoffs.

He just wants to get the upper hand in negotiations. play out the season then go on strike when the owners make the most money to try and force their hand. No one playing from the start puts both parties on equal footing and will hopefully lead to an agreement.

while this is true and i can see your reasoning, I don't mind hockey without playoffs as opposed to no hockey. Mind you a Shortened season with playoffs is best, but that's not a guarantee is it? If they miss the start they could miss the whole season.

whereas if they start on time, i think they're more likely to play out the whole season (even if they do strike at the playoffs)

finally, I still see our team as an outside shot to make the playoffs, and after this year, i realized i don't really pay much attention once "my" team is out.

What is the punishment for not making the cap floor?

Olli Might be a better fit. He will want less money and less term.

I got 50 vcash down on you needing an umbrella on August 4th.

Who takes the other side of the bet?!

We have no idea how the CBA will affect the cap. How can we even speculate whether we are going to make the floor, or if there WILL be a floor? (though I know the structure of the CBA is unlikely to change much).

I am going to delay thinking about what we have to do to comply with the cap until we see what the parameters will actually be.

I'm not concerned. I'd rather be in this position when we're building, as opposed to being stuck near the cap. We'll meet the floor, I'm sure however some people will get on ownership for not spending a boatload on FA's.

while i know that suter has probably 0 interest in coming here.. in my perfect world wed sign him for 3-4 years, with a big contract (hes going to get it regardless)

then we would deal buff for a solid forward.

oo i can dream

Being right at the floor is almost as bad as being right at the ceiling.

I will, only because I lost the balance of a fat stack of vcash by continually betting with my heart on the Jets over the tail end of last season. I need to double up the pittance that remains, somehow.

there are a lot of things to worry about as a jets fan.....being handcuffed by the cap is not one of them.....that will never happen.

It's not just about being handcuffed by the cap, it's about paying a player a contract he doesn't deserve. Whether you have the budget room or not, it's still foolish.

Suter is a nice pipe dream. Id probably rather get one star player at an overpaid price than a couple second liners for first line money, third for second line money, etc.

Give him five years at $8M per and we'll hit the cap floor Chevy! Haha.

Too bad there's that whole Cup contender thing players like.

I dont think we will have any problems making the cap floor. Pavs and Kane will help us out there. Plus after the CBA I dont see the cap floor being 54.2 million.

OK, here's a hypothetical 22-man roster

FORWARDSCONTRACT DEFENCECONTRACT GOALIESCONTRACT
Ladd4.4 Byfuglien5.2 Pavelic3.9
Antropov4.0625 Hainsey4.5 ----------
Wheeler2.55 Enstrom3.75 ----------
Little2.383333 Bogosian2.5 ----------
Slater1.6 Stuart1.7 ----------
Burmistrov1.5 Clitsome1.25 ----------
Miettinen1.351293 ---------- ----------
Thorburn0.866667 ---------- ----------
Cormier0.854166 ---------- ----------
---------- ---------- ----------
Kane  Kulda  Gustavsson
Machacek  Postma
Wellwood

The numbers are salaries in millions. The bottom 3 rows are unsigned players. Here are some estimated salaries.
We MUST sign Kane; $4 million
Machacek $2 million
Wellwood $1.5 million
Gustavsson $1.5 million
Postma $1 million
Kulda $1 million

That leaves us $1 million short and room for 1 more roster player. Put Scheifele into the starting roster at $1,594,167, and we easily hit the floor.
