Dennis Bernstein has a worse track record than Eklund.
There is always trade chatter around July 1st. Doesn't mean anything special.

I would guess Clifford, Loktionov, and/or Bernier

If the rumors are true that we're gonna make a run at Zach Parise then maybe that's what Leiweke was talking about. Maybe we make a run at Parise like we did with Brad Richards. (When that happen we were all shocked)

Who said trading Richardson would shock the world? Dennis Bernstein didn't say that.

Maybe it one of those ******** things where the "big news" is a charity donation or some crap, like a few years ago.

I am sure he is talking about Quick's contract extension.

I was commenting on Bernstein's rumor, not Leiweke's statement. Bernstein didn't allude to any blockbuster move either when he suggested two names may be on the block.

This, and on top of it, we have traded Richardson somewhere and signed Penner.

Andy Strickland had right about the Schultz saga (5 hours ago):
Quote:
Andy Strickland @andystrickland
Word is #Oilers and #Sens are final two teams for Justin Schultz
He also tweeted:
Quote:

#LAKings havent been satisfied with Jonathan Bernier offers...told they're hoping for 1st round pick
He also wrote this article:

Bernier….
As I recently reported, Kings goaltender Jonathan Bernier has asked the team to trade him to a team where he has a chance to play. Sources say Kings GM Dean Lombardi is asking a hefty price including a first round pick in return. So far no offers have satisfied Lombardi.

I think Schultz could have obviously handled things better, but teams were putting on the full court press because he is that good and that NHL ready.
There is a ton of media coverage and message board chatter because rarely is a guy this young and this good available as an UFA.
He is hockey's equivalent of a generational Cuban defector you would see in MLB.
Lucky break for the Oilers. This is like getting another top 5 pick this year.
In the last year they have added a future #1 center, a 1st line sniper and now a future top pair defender.

Also Schultz has to sign an Entry contract. So money and term is not a problem for the teams.
It's just convincing Justin to play in your town.

I'm so glad we don't have to stress about him coming to the Kings. I'm quite happy with our defense.

There is certainly a chance (though very slim)
But there was a reason teams were doing backflips to try and sign this guy. He can do it all from the back end.
This is a coup for the Oilers. Wonder if they had an idea this was going to fall their way, and that is why they went with Yakupov over Murray.

That would be tampering if they did know.

No it wouldn't, there were plenty of rumors leaked that he wanted to play in Canada (in particular out West) and that he wanted to play big minutes right away. The Oilers were able to offer both those things to him, and a young group that he can grow with.
Plus it's not like they reached in Yakupov, he was most peoples #1. But they were definitely interested in Murray also, maybe the likelihood they would be favorites for Schultz gave them the extra confidence they needed to take Yakupov.
