Loyalty is a two-way street, I agree, but they could have waited until halfway into the season. If he plays, offer the contract just before Christmas as a nice treat. That's just me thinking out loud, the Pens financials could state otherwise

it was talked to death on the contract thread, the op is just seeking for attention... it's a smaller risk than letting Sid go as an UFA next season, don't see what the big deal is...

I really thought your first post was sarcasm. I guess I was wrong. let me put it this way for you, if given the opportunity Burke would have signed Sid for a 20 years long contract at a 10 mill $ caphit... and I might add, for good reasons.

He's worth 15-20m anyways, his entire career with Pittsburg he's been underpaid and will be rest of his life, so it's only a small risk.

I've actually always been surprised that anyone insures those mega-deals to begin with. Not surprised that with Crosby's concussion history that it can't be insured.

fans of other teams who want to spin this deal into anything but the great hometown discount it is. Burkle is a Billionaire.

You know what, you're right. This isn't news. It's not worth talking about.

Obviously as a fan you could give a rats ass what his contracts looks like, as long as he's signed but try looking at it from a business perspective. Let me put it this way for you, what if the Penguins are a bubble team 5 years from now and Crosby's career is in jeopardy? The organization will then be leaking a large sum of money for nothing. You don't think it's worth discussing?

Crosby makes Burkle and Lemieux millions every year, no worry from them. Not to mention that Burkle could write Sid a check for 105 million tomorrow and not feel it.

Good for the Pens, but some teams don't have that kind of money and insurances are important for them.

I see insurances being a problem in the future for the NHL and the NFL with more and more studies coming out about the effects of concussions on players health,

No player is worth 2million but people sign them to that and more. I think he meant "worth" as in "could get". And Crosby could get the max any year from any team who had room.

And this from someone who hates the guy.

Without double checking the CBA I believe the correct restriction is contracts can't drop by more than 50% of the first year's value (might be the largest year).

Fifty percent of 12 is 6 so the $6 million decrease is legal. Shero isn't some Holmgren style jack-wagon.

So, if all goes well, Sid expects to retire 10 years from now at age 35? Breakdown of the salary is what I would have expected. He averages $10.6 million if you writeoff the 3 years at $3 million per...

I hate Sid but, I love that his cap hit is his jersey number.
