I think we're all too giddy/excited right now to truly speak to the ramifications this signing has on the future of this team. Therefore, we're going off into new realms of randominity.

To be honest, it's a phenomenon that has been going on way before Crosby was even born. I remember how much hatred and vitriol there was for Gretzky during his prime. He only started to become "loved" when he was approaching retirement. But before then, he basically got the same hatred that Crosby received over everything he did.

Honestly, it seems in our North American DNA to have an inclination to hate anything that's the best at something. Inborn jealousy, maybe? Loathing that which we can't even come close to becoming ourselves? Whatever the reason, I've noticed that the best in their profession get so much irrational hate from the general masses.

Perhaps you should've just looked upon him with respect and the solemn code of silence.

Plus I added more historical context.

If anything this deal should insure that Malkin can stay with the team long-term. No idea what Bucci is thinking. He's usually a smart man when it comes to hockey. I guess everybody has an off day.

it better be a secret committee. we don't want people giving insincere quotes just to get a voice.

I'll give a couple Flyers fans credit for coming over here and congratulating us. I'm sure it's difficult for them to do so, but it only makes sense given the cap hit and years.

I hope your right. he has left, so much money on the table I'm Worried Geno might want more. The discount he took was huge. If I'm not mistaken If his contract was the max its 20 percent of the cap right? so 20 percent of 70 million is 14 million. Am I wrong? Just seems like a huge sum of money. Don't get me wrong I'm stoked about it

Shero when asked about the Crosby signing:

'Now that I have forward taken care of I can get back to drafting defensemen.'

I'll have to go back and amend my giggle. I feel shame, and after going back and looking at the historical information you put in there, I feel as though I should put a 'cone of shame' around Mr. Rupp's neck in my avatar.

the problem there is, the new CBA very likely won't allow him to get this kind of term.

Yah it was just... I didn't get it. Doesn't seem like something he would say (not that he's the greatest hockey analyst but he has at least shown knowledge of the game and its players many times). Needs to review his basic math skills. One player taking less money than he was expected to / the same as he currently does, does not make it less likely another player can sign and stay for a long time. It makes it more likely.

And $100M doesn't mean anything in a cap world. Either the owner has the deep pockets and a yearly money-making machine or he doesn't, and he absolutely does.

It is during these trying times a poster learns the most about him or herself. Go now to the temple of solitude and be with your thoughts. For the spirit of Jeremiah is forgiving and everywhere at the same time.

I like it. Its nice to know Crosby is locked up long term and at good value. Screw what the rest of the board says, they just all wish he would have gone to free agency.

That's not the way the cap works, it's an average of what he's paid during the contract. He'll be paid more in the next few years but the cap hit will remain the same.

If there's any fan from any other team that says they wouldn't sign him for the same deal or more, they'd be a lying sob.

gotta set the record straight here - Jeremiah Johnson is far more badass than that. The Redford movie (where that gif is from) is based on real-life mountain man Liver-Eating Johnson. that's right. his name was LIVER-EATING Johnson. his native-american wife was butchered by the Crow. his response - a decades long killing rampage wherein he ate the raw liver of everyman he killed (something about they couldn't meet the great spirit w/o a liver or he took away all their spiritual strength by eating it).

Crosby is our Liver-Eating Johnson. if we're going to continue the mountain man analogy, Malkin is our Jim Beckwourth.

July 1st 2024 can't arrive fast enough, will he re-sign or test free agency in 2025?
