Is there anything that proves that he's already officially signed the deal?

If he has, how are we not in trouble with the league?

all the official reports say he agreed to terms I believe. Not signed actually.

That would be a silly way to get in trouble. The deal isn't officially signed until July 1st - there's nothing wrong with negotiating beforehand.

Great deal for the Pens if it happens!
However, Crosby better stay healthy on that contract.

Really good article by Sean Conboy on Pittsburgh Magazine's website about Crosby's concussion issues in the past and what that means to his contract extension...

http://www.pittsburghmagazine.com/Be...act-Extension/

I really like the stuff he writes.

i posted that up-thread, but it's always good to give Sean more exposure. He might be Pittsburgh's media's last best hope. I also included him in the Media Tomfoolery tread.

If the Trib writers had 1/2 the talent and willingness to research things this guy does, we'd all be smarter for it as fans. Instead we get hacks and morons looking for "social media angles" to their stories.

Good link. Thanks.

This might be a sign of the end-times.

Actually there are several journalists (all walks of reporting) that I like... it's just that until this Conboy chap, none of them seem to be from Pittsburgh.

Malkin 'excited' for Sid deal, I asked agents for both what happens if 71 wants more than 8.7 per. Read all about it @TribLIVE around 1230

Shero said he texted Malkin that they had a deal and Geno texted back, "nice."

He could have said, "**** him for capping me" and I still would have laughed.

I'm curious to see what their agents said, particularly Malkin's.

I have to agree...but the cap will never be set that low. I can see 8-10 years and/or up to a certain age...but guys like Crosby wreck that 6 year figure.

Either way I doubt we'll be able to sign Malkin to the same deal next year, even if he wants a duplicate deal again.

Did some quick math about Crosby's contracts.

In the first year of his last contract the cap was 56.3 mil so his 8.7 mil made up a little over 15% of the cap.

This yr his 8.7 mil makes up only 12% of the 70 mil cap.

If he were to have wanted to stay at the 15% that he was previously at his new contract would have been roughly 10.5 million per season.

We all felt he took a nice discount for us last time at 8.7 million. This time he took another 1.8 million less than that. Sure hope we can get him Parise after the discount he took for us.

Crosby #'s starting to surface. The first 3 years are at $12M. He will make close but below $11M AAV the first 9 years of 12 year deal. #TSN

Salary cap-wise, it absolutely does not. His cap hit is $8.7M. The only person that needs to worry about how it breaks down year to year is Burkle.
