there were rumors of crosby's camp being angry with the penguins and their medical staff during the whole concussion debacle... i was worried that could come back and haunt the penguins when it came to a new deal for sid.

glad to know that was bs.

Yah I just found my error. Thanks for clarifying the rule though. That makes more sense now.

All people who are great at something tend to have something that is very odd about them.

I do believe that counts as a source. NOW, just confirm officially that it's front-loaded.

Big to Sid for staying at 8.7. You just don't see that in professional sports anymore. He is quite the exception.

I would assume that it does. Frankly, if that's all it took to make him amenable to keeping his cap hit, then that's fine by me.

Question: I wonder how much the fallout of the Staal deal-- and the implications in terms of Shero's ability finally to get Sid his long term winger-- helped out. Sid took 8.7M last time because he thought, eventually, the money saved would allow the Pens to get him a winger. NOW, they can, and he can see it. It really is a perfect storm.

What are the effects of this deal on Malkin's future as a Penguin?

Some guy on ESPN was just saying that he thinks Malkin will have to be traded because the Penguins can't afford two 100M players.

And that's putting it nicely. What a standup guy to take basically 60m off his career because 8.7 is enough money. That's just amazing. How can anyone not like this kid?

Safe to say he's a legend in Pittsburgh for the rest of his life. He will have to pull some Ron Burgandy **** to get this city to hate him.
