Quantitative Player Value/Databases

I was wondering what is generally regarded as the best quantitative measurement of a players season-to-season value? I know this is a maturing field and some people have done some great work (Corsi, GVT, etc.), but I was hoping I could gain a broader perspective by asking here of what THE best measure would be if you could only use one.

Also does anybody know where readily available databases of player stats (GP, points, TOI, advanced metrics) and salary might be available? I would like to play around some these numbers myself focusing on a team/player level. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
