Least fair method of acquiring talent

So there's been a ton of discussion about the various methods of acquiring talent. Which do you think is the least fair way? Consider both the team gaining the asset, as well as the team losing the asset (if applicable).

Oops, I meant to have the final option be "none of the above"

Count me as none of the above. Every team operates under the same rules when it comes to acquiring talent, and none of the options listed are inherently unfair in any way.

Drafting is flawed. You'll have teams like Pittsburgh, and currently Edmonton drafting multiple superstars in a row, because the stars they draft don't develop instantly, so they're stuck at the bottom for a few years, and come out REAAAAAALLLLLLYYYYY strong. I can't imagine how good the Pens would have been if they hadn't drafted Staal and Fleury

It's all fair, the rules determine what is fair. If it's in the rules, its fair. Seems simple enough to me.

The draft lottery idea is nice but a team should not be allowed to win to year in a row, or draft first overall two years in a row or something like that.

''INCOMING!'' (thats me before the imminent Oilers fan attack)

Thats another one. It rarely works it seems but it screws up teams because they have to overpay for young players so they don't get signed by other teams.

Draft Lottery every year. 30 balls, 1 team 1 ball, regardless of prior standings.

All teams must try to be competitive every season.

kidnapping would be the least fair way to acquire talent, then maybe offer sheets. Beyond that...none of the above.

Draft.

Its completely unfair you that you can build a powerhouse team by simply sucking enough.

Its winning by losing, and flawed in my opinion. A team shouldn't get to pick 1st multiple years in a row.

The way it was done before players universally entered the league through the Player Draft. Not fair when teams with the biggest scouting and management budgets gobble up all the best players when they are 12 years old. Particularly when they are living in their backyard in a day when information wasn't as available and didn't flow as quickly as it does today. It's why the Hawks couldn't keep for most of the Original Six era.

Agree. They should give the first pick to the Stanley Cup Champion as a reward for a season well done! People act like it's so great to go through terrible seasons. Try watching your team when they're awful. It's very frustrating to know you don't have a puncher's chance of even making the Playoffs and having to see your team get beat badly on the ice night after night. The high draft pick is just a light at the end of a tunnel in the hope that some day the franchise will be able to turn it around and you can see your team win. I'd be upset if any of the major North American Sporting Leagues became akin to Spanish Soccer where two teams can compete and everyone else is playing for 3rd.

Ah crap, knew I forgot something (RFA offer sheets). Can a mod add it to the poll or is it too late?

Too bad that even after the less wealthy teams wanted a salary cap, they still don't spend money, leaving the big free agents up for grabs by the Leafs and the Rangers.

Idea of sports is to improve yourself and compete to become the best.. Drafting is giving the fat loser who cant run a head start so he would have a chance.. That is incredibly stupid..

No, it's what you're talking about (the article covers that exact topic - did you read it?).

Saying it the way that you did (and that most people do) implies that it was a much larger issue than it actually was.
