Thoughts on this scenario

Quote:
Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper
Much like #Rangers Richards last July, #Devils Parise will be in Toronto huddled with Newport Sports awaiting #NHL teams to present offers
I would like to present this as its own thread because of what happened last year with Richards. Will Pegs and Regier show up in the helicopter? Or Fizzle?

Feelings?

I doubt he's coming to Buffalo, unless his man-love for Stafford runs that deep and Pegula can pull out the big bucks. I imagine his mind is already made up, though, much like Richard's was last year. I suspect he goes to the 'Burgh to flank Crosby.

Don't get your hopes up. However, I'm sure Regier will make a pitch.

They'll make a pretty good offer. They probably make a pitch for Semin and Suter too.

1.) Vanek is of no interest to Anaheim. They want to shed salary, not take on.

2.) I doubt that Enroth, who hasn't proven much in the NHL, could be used as the primary piece to land Zajac -- who likely isn't on the block.

3.) As far as Parise goes, meh. Great player....but I think he's going to be asking for too much cash. I don't want to follow the TB model for building a team (4 or 5 high priced guys, followed by a bunch of meh guys or ELC guys)

The problem with signing Parise, is that he's going to be past his prime when the Sabres emerge as a ****ing Stanley Cup power house. So, if they are going to tie up big dollars, make sure the guy is actually a core player 2-4 years from now.

They are supposedly very good friends and Stafford will be a groomsman in his wedding this summer. If nothing else, I should get our foot in the door and have our offer heard. Beyond that Parise will obviously choose whats best for him. Assuming of course, Regier has him as a top priority.

I give us a 5% chance of getting him at best and a .5% chance of getting him with out it being a major over payment.

Considering Drew thought he was being dealt at the deadline, I'm not sure if he's going to be the tipping point for Parise unless R&R have told him he's not going.

I don't know if Regier is going to even waste him time. I think the Richards thing really hurt us last year. Plain and simple, we panicked. Forget about Parise and put the effort into a player you think we can get. I really think they want Semin.

Somehow I doubt Lindy wants anything to do with Semin.

I don't think Lindy has the balls to tell Pegula no. Also, why wouldn't Lindy want Semin. Lindy likes two way hockey players.

Maybe the most impressive thing I can point out about Semin is his overall 2-way performance relative to the rest of the league. Of 125 players with 2500 5v5 zone start adjusted minutes of ice time over the past 3 season, Semin ranks 5th in GF20 (trailing only D. Sedin, H. Sedin, Toews, and Stamkos) and he ranks 13th in GA20. It truly is a rare combination (for example, the Sedinís rank 28 and 38 in GA20, Toews 60th and Stamkos 105th).

Then Lindy would like Semin - who, as shown by the analysis Fly Boy posted, is a very good two-way player.

Semin gets a lot of flack that he doesn't deserve, but I still don't want him. He's still an enigma and this team needs more sure-fire players, not oh well he could work out players.

You're kidding yourself if you think he's any kind of good two way player. If he were, he'd average more than 0:00 shorthanded TOI/G.

You say that like it's a bad thing. What about the best defense is a good offense?

You should go back and watch Semin in the playoffs this year.

This response is indicative of someone who doesn't watch the Caps.

No, I don't. I asked a question after that.

If between 15-20 of their games this season isn't enough to form an opinion, I guess you're right.

Back on topic -

What Regier should do is explain to Parise's agent about how much cap space Buffalo will have next summer. Explain that if Parise signs a two year deal in Buffalo for the cap space they have right now (about 7.5-8.0 mil, same as Pitt's offer), next summer Buffalo will sign him to an extension that provides a raise into the range of 8.5 mil, for another 8 years.

Parise alone might not be worth 8.5 mil, but what Parise can do to provide a legit top scoring line that also causes mis-matches down the depth chart IS worth it. After another couple years of the salary cap increasing, 8.5 mil won't seem too bad either.
