I wanted Paul Holmgren to trade with St. Louis for Nikitin last offseason, as he seemed like the perfect under-the-radar player who was about to break out but just needed an opportunity. Great move by the Blue Jackets.

Nikitin's ceiling is Elite Defenceman. That's a great great deal.

Somehow I see Nikitin traded soon for a third line forward

Yeah, it's always nice when a divisional trade works out for BOTH teams.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Nikitin's issues in STL centered around: a.) weak grasp of the English language; b.) annoying habit of screening his own goaltender; c.) beating himself up when he made mistakes. He seems much more confident in Columbus, and now that he's paired with a Russian defenseman (in front of a Russian goalie, as well) I think the sky's the limit for him. Wish him the best!

The effect of playing with Tyutin, someone who literally spoke the same language, can not be overlooked.

Im happy for Nikitin, he just didn't mesh well in St. Louis, must be because Hitchcock hates Russians , but I'm glad that he got a chance to succeed. He just wasn't going to get that shot with the Blues. And he was given first pair minutes right off the bat and he ran with it. Even if he says where he is at developmentally, this will be a great contract. If he can continue to progress, this contract maybe the steal of the offseason.

Howson must have been drunk, because he sure doesn't make effective moves while he's sober.

Good for Nik. I like the kid, and I'm glad he's playing well in CBus.

Nikitin still looked very impressive after Tyutin went down late in the season.

It came out a few weeks ago that Nikitin played the last three months of the season with a splint on his thumb as well.

Always liked Nik. Glad he's getting paid good money. Very good contract for player and for the team. Miss him in St. Louis.

I'm happy to see Nikitin succeeding in Columbus. Although he had a rough start to the season with the Blues, I really liked his game and was disappointed to see him traded (not knowing anything about Kris Russell at the time). Russell's since won me over but the Jackets just locked up themselves a solid young two-way defender to a good contract. Hope Nik continues to thrive with them.

I miss N64. You could see his talent as soon as he came over, just took him awhile to adjust. Great trade for both teams as Russell was probably our second best dman in the playoffs. I only watched the few games he played against the Blues towards the end of the year but has his skating improved at all or does he still seem to get burned here and there due to lack of speed? Love his shot though and the between the legs pass his rookie year is something I will always remember.
