I'd say this about the whole situation. The team isn't going to say much if anything until Schultz makes his decision. So the first person that asks why the team isn't saying anything, bend down and run as hard as you can into a wall.

And he has already told Detroit and Philly thanks but no thanks.

I dunno. Other teams were quick to state publicly that they were out of the running for him. I'm sure a decision by him hasn't been made, but at this stage I'm taking a "no news is good news" approach.

Agreed. Bob said that the Schultz camp had put the cone of silence down around these negotiations. So long as we are saying nothing, we're still in the mix afaic.

Where are all the body language experts etc from the draft? Cmon.

Well, we tried and if he signs here great. It's just so nice to even be on 'the list'.

Lowe is usually a talker so is the fact he didn't comment on the meeting good or bad news?

Did Tambo have his troll grin on? Were the Oilers the first team to meet with him?

I keep reading that a lot of people think it's a plus in Vancouvers favor because they are a contender.

While I agree this is an attractive option for older players that have hit UFA and have had limited success in the NHL because time is 'running out' I actually think it doesn't alter a young players decision nearly as much at the beginning their career.

While winning a cup is great, I think winning a cup knowing you played a major role in the process is MUCH more gratifying.

Sure Van could win a cup next year but if he is on the 3rd pairing, I doubt he feels very much a part of the process as opposed to say if he joined the Oilers and spent several years growing with the team and THEN potentially wins a cup on the top pairing. So I feel Edmonton actually has an advantage here on the premise of potential.

I call this Seguin syndrome.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure Seguin enjoys his cup ring. But would he treasure one more if he was the undisputed #1C throughout the playoffs....? me thinks so.

There was a story in the Jounal yesterday. Toronto had a window to sign him at the draft. Apparently they are out. I will see if I can find a link.

Edit: http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/201...-press-report/

At the very end it says TO is out, however today's Journal article says TO is a front runner. http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sport...105/story.html

Actually he's pretty good. Keeps his cards close to his chest, nothing is shared with the media unless he wants it shared. Just think about the draft last week...we have no idea what went down, or if he's even happy with drafting yakupov (I definitely am).

Hope the meeting with Schultz went well, but whatever. If its a good fit and he wants to be here he is welcome, but we are not begging for thighs talents either. I do think this is the best place for him to prosper.

Yeah but wouldn't he get an extra $100,000 by waiting until July 1st?

So I don't think this means they are out of the running, I just think it means he wants the extra $100,000.

Marketing Tip:
The Oilers should put the face on T-shirts if we get Schultz.
Yakupov written on one side and Schultz on the other.
It will sell in thousands..

Somebody should make an avatar saying, "All your Schultz's are ours!" with a picture of Sgt. Schultz.

what do they need them for? just in case they happen in Edmonton some time on the game day and not to be concerned about getting the ticket to the game? wish i had enough money to do this...

Actually, I think you could make an argument that his chances are better to win with Edmonton, simply due to their window of winning being much shorter.

A good point was made on the main board that this whole "process" could just be a ruse to keep anyone from thinking he was 'tampered' with.

If so, then I am thinking he signs with TO.

If his folks still live in Kelowna, there's no way they're active season ticket holders making a 4hr+ trek down to Roger's Arena for most of the home games. They could have them and be selling off most of the tickets though, as it's a pretty profitable venture when it comes to Canucks season tickets
