Good price if he can keep up his play from last season. Not to mention he has one of the coolest names in hockey.

Columbus needs something to go right for them and the swap of him for Kris Russell is one of those things. Good deal for him and the Blue Jackets.

Good deal for the Jackets, glad for them. Nikitin was one of a few bright spots last season, and definitely should be retained.

So what do Columbus fans expect their defense to look like opening game?

Love it! I was expecting a copy of the Marc Methot contract, so seeing this is great news.

JMFJ-Wisniewski
Tyutin-Nikitin
Methot-[whichever of Moore, Savard, or Murray impresses the most in camp]
[some random #7 plug]

The top two pairings showed remarkable chemistry together, so that's what we'd start with. Splitting up Tyutin and Nikitin at this juncture, given how long they spent together last year and how well they did, seems extremely unlikely. If the JMFJ-Wiz magic goes away, though (we have only a handful of games of them together, but both of them were plus players as a result!), expect a shuffle.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

He was an outstanding pickup for the BJ's.

Nikitin surprisingly was a huge beneficiary to that trade. He just seemed to catch fire upon arriving in Columbus and never looked back. Good re-signing.

I'm probably the biggest Kris Russell fan around, but Nikitin has far surpassed what I thought he'd accomplish. Tyutin and Nikitin were one of the best shut down pairs in the NHL last year when together.

Great signing.

Good value, but I'm a bit skeptical about his play without Tyutin. He needs to improve his communication with other players, lest we see more of this...

good signig for CBJ. Their defensive quad is starting to look good. If only their Goaltenders would stop the puck it would be a lot better for them

As much as Howson is ripped on here (and deservedly so), he does have a knack for finding "Diamond in the Rough" players like Jan Hejda, Mathieu Roy, etc.. Nikitin was the most recent of those. Glad to see him back, especially at the price.
