I don't have these expectations for him. I'm saying that the Canucks can sell the potential of being 'the guy' for a franchise that's never won the Cup in his hometown. If you're Justin Schultz and you're having 29 hockey GMs and numerous media praising you, then you probably have the idea that you at least have the potential. If you're a level headed fan, maybe you don't think he'll become a top defenseman down the line.

It happens.
They sent an offer sheet to Joe Sakic as well if I remember correctly.

What if Schultz number 1 priority was fresh donuts. He doesn't give a crap about winning cups, or playing ice time, or playing with his buddies, when he comes to the rink he wants extremely fresh donuts he's able to mow down on.

All these discussions and penis sizing contests would look foolish, even more so that a professional athlete is choosing his destination based on the freshness of said pastries.

By true #1 i think he means a Norris type d man. And i think it's terribly unfair to put those kind of expectations on him already.

Let's just hope he can play a solid 2-way NHL game first guys.

The biggest issue for the Win now teams (we all know who they are) is the probability of Schultz winding up in the minors if he struggles (and he will struggle, he is a rookie after all).

Won't make very much in the way of salary or bonuses down there, not to mention the embarrassment of winding up riding the bus in the minors after the media hooplah.
Absolutely agree, biggest risk by far that he wouldn't sign with the Canucks is him thinking he might go to the minors

As he should, if he isn't good enough to play on the team

I obviously can't speculate how this impacts his decision making process but I completely agree with you

Nobody should expect him to become a Norris winning defenseman. However, if he believes that he can, he'd know that he was the first in Canucks' franchise history.

Looks like the meeting between Schultz and the Oilers has happened

Per Twitter - @NHL_Oilers:
Quote:
An #Oilers delegation including forward Taylor Hall met with free agent defenceman Justin Schultz and his agent in Toronto today
Quote:
"Hopefully (Schultz) feels he wants to join something that could soon be very special in the years to come." #Oilers Kevin Lowe

I don't think they'd be told they are out of it, until he announces what team he's signing with... I don't imagine it'd be like the Bachelorette...

I can't stand how it almost seems like the Oilers are proud that they have failed horribly as a team these past few years.

I dont see why he would go to NY if he wants serious minutes? They have some serious players on the backend who are going to eat up minutes.

Any team besides the Kings, Bruins, or 'Hawks have failed the past three years.

That's something a team that doesn't care all that much about winning would say.

man this has been addressed so many times. Bottom line, there's a spot for him if he wants it (and doesn't play terrible). Most of the Rangers strength on the blueline is in their left D, and none of them are comfortable on the right side. Schultz could easily step into the second pairing on the right side.

Owners - those who receive additional revenue from playoff games - will disagree with you.

This made me laugh...Having been away from Edmonton for over 20 years one thing I can tell you is that everytime I go back I am reminded that the city has some of the best doughnuts I have ever had. The Manning Safeway which is not far from Rexall is exquisite.

If doughnuts are his thing he will be wearing copper and blue!!

(Probably not the reply you expected. )

Well, even when you're going through the formalities of talking with "potential suitors", a future Canuck isn't about to fraternize with the enemy.

Its hard living in the shadow of such a storied franchise like the Senators. Maybe you're not old enough to remember drafting 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 1st , 1st overall in 5 straight years.

Oilers fans should be proud for just sticking around the past few years. A lot of fan bases would have dwindled to nothing and then came back as die hard fans when the start winning again.

I doubt Shultz' camp will tell any team out of the top 5 that they are out of the running. They will probably find out when we do
