If Edmonton really sent Gretzky and Coffey to recruit Schultz, I think that may hurt their chances... I would want the current staff to come and talk to me, with the current captain or star forward as well. These teams shout be pitching about the future, not gloating about the past (cuz if that were the best selling feature, he would have signed in MTL already).

The Oilers already sent the entire management team and Hall.

In the end I cannot see how he could even play anywhere than Vancouver if he is such a die hard fan. He watches Canucks games with his college buddy and gets made fun of in the locker room when the Canucks lose.

His parents are die hard fans with season tickets.

The only way I can see him not going to VAN is that he might not want to start his career in front of everybody he knows right away. Some kids would find that a distraction.

I have always thought he had VAN from the start and these other teams were used as leverage to get VAN to guarantee him a spot, etc.

Who knows...

Kevin Lowe(Presdent of Hockey Operations)
Craig MacTavish(Vice-President of Hockey Operations)
Steve Tambellini(General Manager)
Ralph Krueger(Head Coach)
Taylor Hall(Star player..most likely future captain)

Plus Gretzky and Coffey made phone calls.

Professional athletes play where they have the best opportunities, not necessarily for their favorite team.

Is it a factor? Sure. But just as he won't be taking a janitorial job with the Nucks, he won't base his decision of where to sign his first pro contract on homerism.

If you think this thread is bad. One day stop over at cnn.com, open any article, and go to the comments. Doesnt matter what the subject is it will turn into a major pissing contest between Democrats and Liberals

Come again?

The Sens have solid pieces in very hard spots to fill and they have one of the best prospect pools in the league. Their rookie coach was a Jack Adams finalist and they just provided an environment where their 21 year old Dman won the Norris.

Ya, there's a reason Ottawa's in the running and it's got nothing to do with playing near home, or playing with Wisconsin buddies. This only has so much to do with last year as last year was just a testament to how the organization has been run since 08....tons of Sens fans have been calling it for the past couple years, we know we are on the upswing....and we sure as hell don't need to bring Cyclone Taylor from the dead to give Schulzy a call.

Oilers sure invested a lot of time into this....seems they are betting all on black here. This much for a rookie? Don't get me wrong, i hope the Canucks get him but wow.

I take it you haven't seen any excerpts of Canadian Parliamentary debates. Don't let Canada's polite reputation fool you; in the right circumstances we're as bloodthirsty and hardcore as the Roman Army.

Desperate measures for a desperate team. The Oilers really need any and all help on D they can get. This could be the start of that. Hopefully.

They are going all out because he will help our team more than any other IMO.

Canucks strikeout, no big deal, already have a good core.

Oilers miss, then we need to look at trades because the market is pretty thin.

This kid better be the second coming of Bobby Orr. The only thing for sure is that he will have an ego larger than Western Canada.

If he signs with the Leafs, I guess that means:
Gardiner > Gretzky + Coffey + Hall right?

I hate EDM with a passion, but I get it. Young team, future superstars, growing together, etc. Similarly, Vancouver's a top contender, favorite team, chance to win... What does OTT offer that EDM doesn't do better? What does TOR offer besides "the storied franchise" and "playing with his buddy"? Don't get me wrong, TO's a fine city, but I just don't see the appeal of the TOR & OTT pitches for a guy like him.

Did I say that? Just seems like it could back fire if e signs elsewhere, might make other UFAs think twice.

If it's not Schultz....they still don't have a pure puck mover that everyone wants and seems to need these days, in the lineup, or in the system. I don't blame them for going all in, they have no choice.

Toronto had their chance. if he wanted toronto it would have happened when burke talked to him at the draft and had permission fromm ANA.

I say its down to Edmonton and Otttawa. I was surprised Ottawa wasnt mentioned until yesterday because they are the only team, other than Edmoonton, that can offer the big role on a team that fits him.

Any choice other than Ottawa or Edmonton will be bad for him.
