Title should read Cervenka officially a top 6 nhl player. I wanted Jokinen back but I guess this give Stajan a chance to prove himself.

Wouldn't mind Hudler....

We could try him or Stajan on the top line..still yikes.

Neither can really play center and Hudler makes Jokinen look a FO specialist. If we get Hudler it better be as a winger.

Please not Hudler, to me he is a soft, super streaky, lazy player and no wings fan I know liked him there. If he can't succeed with them how could he do it with us?

Agreed. Ideally, I'd start him off on the 2nd or 3rd line.

I know I am in the minority of people that wanted to keep Jokinen but I'm sad to see him go. In saying that, I would have only been happy to see him back for 2 years at 4 per year max. Didn't know he is expecting long term until I read this thread.

For a guy that said he "loves" Calgary earlier in the season, I would have expected a home town discount from him to stay.

In his defense, what did you expect him to say? "Well, Calgary is mediocre, and I really don't care if I remain here or not"

Not only that but this fanbase **** all over him (mostly the first time). He may like Calgary but has been treated badly and I doubt he wants a pay cut.

Agreed. People go off on him about him disappearing near the end, but he was amazing before hand, especially at the start of the season, when the team captain disappeared...

Oh trust me you guys would hate Hudler. I consider him a complimentary 2nd line winger but he is slow and not strong on the puck. Unless he plays with really good players, he is fairly ineffective.

Well the first time around he was a 5.5 million dollar player who played like a 2.5 million dollar player for whom the Flames lost a 1st and a fan favourite. While that's technically all the fault of the GM, it's not like he had any endearing qualities at that point (aside from PhotoShoppability and the sweet ping of him hitting posts).

There were times last year where people were saying "finally, a legit top line". And now Feaster is banking it all on a KHL player who was playing with Jagr, who was one of the greatest players ever? This is ludacris. Feaster needs to suck up his pride and foolish principles and sign one the best Flames players to step on the ice last year.

Part of it could be the number of #1 centres hitting free agency July 1, 2013. Commit to Jokinen long term or short term/big money and that might put us out of the running for someone like Getzlaff.

And deservedly so...He played terrible his first stint in Calgary.

As his play picked up, so did the the response from the fanbase. That seems fairly reasonable to me.

As a Flames fan, I would love to see Jokinen signed to a 1 year deal. Not only does he give you the ability to rock 3 solid centremen, it allows Hartsy to mix and match lines when things aren't going well.

The price tag would be too much for them to do that, so I get him taking off to collect elsewhere. I just don't like how much the Flames will have to rely on a player coming off a different style of play in the KHL and needing time to adjust to the NHL.

Would have been nice if flames would have lost the last few games and we got Grigorinko at 12.

How much could it be? We have over 10 million to spend.

Not surprised by this news at all, I also heard this on the Fan today. I'm sure the Flames would of been happy to accommodate him if he was willing to sign a 2 year deal but they were not going to sign him to a 4 or 5 year extension. This definitely makes us a worse team today, but long term it gives us much more flexibility so I understand it.

Stajan isn't going anywhere now and we absolutely need him unless we trade for another top 6 centre which is on Feaster's wish list. And I am hoping this move gives Backlund a vote of confidence.

Lastly, I would be all over the Roy deal that was mentioned.

Of course not but you don't say to say you love it in Calgary. He went out of his way to say it when he didn't need to. This was back in December or January I think when he was talking about how he wanted to re-sign. Obviously he loves the money more than the city or he would have taken a discount to say.

Not bashing the guy either. If he can get 4 or 5 million then go for it, all the power to him.

We could have gotten forsberg at 11th but we would have probably traded it for 21st and 41st still

More than likely, that's Eric Francis

He's less credible than Eklund.

I don't imagine we will sign Jokinen, but I wouldn't be opposed to him re-signing. Just not a high cap hit for long term.

Maybe its just me but I don't get the sense that his days in Calgary are NECESSARILY done just yet. It seems like there's an offer on the table from Calgary (that he's not happy with) and they've told him to field some offers on July 1 to see if anyone's willing to go higher. Maybe someone knocks it out of the park and Calgary won't match it, or maybe he sees the offers and realizes that ours wasn't so bad after all. Reading some quotes from him, it's clear that this is where he wants to be and that he'd be willing to take some kind of discount to stay here, but how much of a discount is he willing to accept?

I have a sneaking suspicion Roy is coming here. That or pretty much what you have posted. He is definitely checking what he could get in FA though.
