I would like to know if he is hoping to find a niche in the NHL as a tough guy or as a grinder. So without being touchy in your question - Ask him what type of player he percieves himself as.

Ask him what aspects of his game he thinks are strong, which are weak, and which ones he plans to focus on.

Of course there's the token questions...what superstitions do you have? who was your favorite nhl player growing up? etc.
