In hockey, though, 31 and 33 would be considered "aging". Not old by any means, but aging. Players usually start their decline in their early 30s, and that decline speeds up in the mid-30s.
Especially for a guy looking at a ten year deal. True, Suter is 27 himself, but the core of that team 4-6 years older than he is, as opposed to for example the Pens core which is in its early to mid 20's. Anyone saying that is not a factor is kidding themselves. With that said, it is only one factor.

Just because it is opening day for Free Agency does not mean the rule against outlandish claims of insider information was suddenly suspended. I don't care if you were told by the owner of whatever team that something is going down, if you have not been vetted and told by a mod or an admin that you can post the stuff you hear DO NOT POST IT.

Here is one of the reasons we Wild fans still believe we have a chance. Interpret it however you want to.

Suter's agent confirms that the Preds have made a new "substantial" offer per the Preds beat writer.

@JoshYohe_Trib

I can confirm that the Penguins and Ryan Suter's agent, Neil Sheehy, had a conversation today. So far, apparently no offer was made.

Now why did the Predators have to wait up until this point to make a substantial offer?

Even better than going to Detroit, he stays in Nashville.

I think this is the final "**** or get off the pot" offer.

I still don't think Suter's decision will come down to cash. Signing bonus fine, but for the rest he likely wants to fit well into the team's cap structure so he can win a cup. Signing bonus, terms and the right location will be key, not the extra millions.

It had references to Russo, hence why I said "one of" the reasons, not THE reason.

@ Fel much better, and should actually make some Wings fans happy knowing that a MN beat writer thinks Suter is thinking Wings but weighing what the Wild do with Parise. everyone is happy!

Well if neither Suter or Parise are coming to Boston, then feel free to take them both away with you out west to Minnesota.

Not necessarily. Trades are possible and the Wings have 15 forwards under contract, so they have to make a trade anyways. Isn't Yandle being shopped?

And if they lock up both Parise and Suter, Detroit is money.

I tried to tell everyone earlier today. He earned the right to see what's out there and would be stupid not to, then go back to predators to make an offer. Remember no income tax in TN means less $ actually means more $. He had an offer from us already but knew he wanted to see if someone would throw stupid money at him, who wouldn't. I won't be shocked if he signs in Nashville, I won't be totally shocked if he signs elsewhere. But he has to ask himself out of wings wild Preds and Pena, only the pens offer a better chance at winning the cup over the next 10 years. Heck the wings just signed a guy to I,prove their team who was scratched from our playoff lineup and lost lidstrom and how many times have the wild made the playoffs? Twice? He might ign there, but he also remembers what kind of operation leipold ran in Nashville, and if he wants to be on a cup contender I don't see him going their either. Time will tell, I bet we know by Tuesday.
