Matt Cullen

What do you think is going to happen to Cullen after his contract is up with us? If hes set on trying to stay in minnesota, i don't think i would object to him signing a decently cheap deal, and playing a smaller role for our team in the future. Im thinking 4th line/energy player. He still has some wheels, and provides value to any team with his experience, and slick hands.

NHL 12 Be A GM Mode says retirement, 100% of the time.

think he'll retire, or maybe look to get into the coaching business as an assistant somewhere. he might be pretty good doing what bomber is doing now, too. just being a liaison with prospects and keeping them comfortable with the organization and assessing development and the like.

My first guess is retirement. 2nd would be retirment.

I agree, he still has wheels, but next year there should be even more young guns pushing him off the roster.

Depends on what he does this year. If he doesn't fade into oblivion after Thanksgiving, I suppose it's possible.

Probably retirement.

Maybe he gets a job within the organization helping organize Wild volunteer stuff?

I can easily see Cullen sticking around as a 4th line guy. If he's willing to take the pay cut, he'd be very good injury insurance for any team. Minnesota, Chicago, and Winnipeg are probably all close enough to family for him, especially if realignment is finally approved for 13-14.

If he doesn't retire I could see him getting a $1.5M from the Wild.

For some reason, I could see him ending up here in the 'Peg for a year or so.

He can play another 3 years in the league if he's willing to sign a cheap contract and play on the 4th line.

I'd expect at least 1 "1 year deal" after this one is over, just to keep image

I'd guess retirement. Maybe there's a chance a team in need of some veteran leadership gives him a one year deal if it pays decent. Otherwise, I think he hangs em' up in his home state and calls it a career. With Granlund, Phillips, Larsson, etc. coming into the system now Cullen is all but expendable. Brodziak is our 3rd line center of the future.

Cullen could be a very good 4th line center for this team if he's willing to take a pay cut. He would help out on the PK, could still be an option on the PP and could even fill in on the top lines if one of the kids is having a bad night.

I would think Cullen retires, unless there is a one year deal involved somewhere.

And a Powe-Cullen-Clutterbuck 4th line could be used for more than just an "energy" line. That line could handle a huge chunk of the PK responsibilities and could even be matched up against some 1st or 2nd lines.

I agree. If I were creating the perfect 4th line, that would be it.

All those guys do there own thing, which is fine. Clutterbuck, Powe, and Kassian would just run around hitting things. Cullen could carry the puck as much as he wants. It would be a great defensive line. Plus those guys would get lots of PK minutes.
