Not really happy or mad about this. First reaction was that since Engqvist left we needed some depth in case of injuries. The idea that we didn't qualify him to save money makes sense.

And a certain poster should calm down or he's gonna have a heart attack, jesus talk about overreacting... Nokelainen is versatile and he can play on the PK and win faceoffs. He's fine as a #13 forward. Look around the league there's a bunch of players like him. Plus I recall some threads in November of people being satisfied with what he brought and they were hoping he'd resign with us to FINALLY bring some stability to our 4th line center position.

Weber? You see today that he has to play sheltered minutes. Played half of the season.
Nash? He obviously wasn't ready.
Mathieu Carle is still in the AHL.
St-Denis? I hope you're not talking about him.

Habs had to trade for Sopel and Mara because of injuries.

So who was it?
My only guess would have been Mathieu Carle.

But I don't see what this has to do with Nokelainen, and I don't see why this signing is so heavily criticized.

A decent-sized, hard-working, not-soft, penalty-killing forward at just over league minimum? And for 1 year?

Maybe there were better guys available in UFA, but none would be as cheap as Nokie. Maybe the Habs are conserving cap space to go after a big name?

See, that's why you keep "catering" to people, making frivolous comments like you did. When people ask questions, they expect answers. You keep avoiding to reply with an actual answer. Do you enjoy attention that much?

Subban played the whole year with the club. I sincerely hope he was not referring to PK.

I think he's talking about Klubertanz or Carle. Neither make sense.

3 < hint
I guess you mean O'Byrne? Fun fact : Picard is younger than O'Byrne. I don't think Picard stole anything from O'Byrne anyways, he was traded just a few games into that season because his confidence was crushed.

As for your little show here the whole point of a discussion board is to, you know, defend points with arguments and stuff instead of making outlandish statements then retort ''I know I'm right! Why do I have to explain everything I say to you commoners!??''

we got a Bingo ...

And think back to how it all went ....

Picard made the team over Henry who outplayed him when the team needed more Henry than Picard that is for darn sure, and OByrne was gone ,Picard(vive la Ottawa) over Obyrne...

All true facts for the archives.

Seriously though, a Nokelainen re-signing is really nothing to get upset over.

A Campoli re-signing...well, that's different.

You just say bingo, brah.
Martin's favorite game,Tomas Plekanec 28 different line mates?
MT is just as bad, so expect (Staal) Nokelainen with Plekenec this season .
Expect defensemen to play forward AGAIN .
Nightmare on Habs street continued...

Ya know? we thought ok Carbo is just a rookie, Laraque on line one or Begin is just a rookie thing,Boullion as a forward was just a rookie thing etc.

Martin shows up , Make's Carbo look good!

Then MT, right up there with JM for line juggling and playing players in weird places.
What do we got to do to break the curse?

I looked at the first page and its absolutely disgusting how people are pissed about resigning Noke. He's good at faceoffs is 26 yrs old he can still develop more. He can get even better and is a great hard working 4th line 13th forward with some upside.

WHAT just because he's not 7 feet tall its a fail? "oh he's on the 4th line we need more grit". What about defense and some energy? He offers that. This board is like a comedy book sometimes. No wonder fans from every single other NHL team laugh at as at times.

I would understand complaints if he signed close to 1M.. but at half that salary, it's not a bad signing. Smart defensive player who can kill penalties, not a lot of offensive skills and will not drill people on the boards, but works hard and plays with grit; is not afraid of initiating contact and will go retrieve in the corners. He's a decent versatile depth forward to have, I actually like his game more than Darche.

Let's not forget he's only 26 and is just entering his prime compared to Darche, who is an aging player. Nokelainen reminds me a bit of Samuel Pahlsson. At around the same age, Pahlsson was considered a borderline NHLer / depth forward as well, signing contracts near league minimum and look at the player he became. He played a key role in Anaheim's playoffs runs.
